I carried various Glocks appendix IWB for 20+ years.
Over a year ago, I transitioned to strong side IWB, I've tried various Glocks 23/22/35 repeatedly but they are just not as comfortable IWB as a 1911.
I give up, I'm stuck with carrying a 1911.

1911 is an excellent pistol. I have one and if I carried it, I wouldn't have an issue with it.

I carry a G41 for the round count.

1911s are 1.34 inches wide. That actually compares favorably to a number of subcompacts. Check out the table at the link below. The FNS 9 compact is 1.35 inches wide. The H&K USP Compact is 1.38 inches wide.
Got to love those 1911s. I know I do.

Not the slide, which is quite a bit thinner and the part that would go IWB.

Just slip a 1911 into a USP Compact holster and it will really show how much of a difference.

Slide width, but especially length.
Slide length is just long enough to get past/ off my hip, shorter slide digs into one spot, longer distributes contact down section of slide.
Glock 35 has long slide, but toward the end of the day it's uncomfortable, same type holster.
Put 1911 on hip wear all day long, no problem
My opinionated hip prefers 1911.

I was having this conversation with a friend last week. Seems he and I are also very subjective to what is carried. He recently bought an older EMP. It seems to aggravate his hip area, where a full size does not.

As you stated, the longer slide length distributes the weight and creates a more stable carry.

Too bad.

If *only* there were brands of pistol other than Glock or 1911 style?!

LOL
Those are what I have, 1911 is reliable and all day comfortable, not experimenting further.
