    Haven't had fresh smelt in 15 years bought two pounds of the little bastages pound for lunch today and a pound for tomorrow,

    When I was a kid, my dad and I would dip-net buckets of them out of the river and then smoke them. Good times!!

    My family is Italian, and smelt have always been a Christmas Eve tradition.

    Fried smelt.
    Scallops.
    Linguini w/ clam sauce.
    Artichokes.

    My family usually does them lightly battered and fried.

    my wife loves smelt. I do not like it. cant see eating fish bait.
