Okay, so I am about to purchase my first gun, and I googled conceal carry states and it says that Illinois is a no conceal carry state, but why do they sell conceal carry weapons and offer conceal carry classes at the Cabelas by me?

Lets say for some crazy reason I was caught carrying my weapon, is this something that would get me sent to jail?

You are in one of the last serious anti-concealed handgun licensing states ever! Not being an attorney or a resident of the state of Illinois I can guarantee you'll likely go to jail!

Someone, preferably a lawyer from Illinois familiar with your states firearms laws please chime in quick!

Best,

Dave

conceal classes can be taken if you want to get another states permit so you can carry in those states. you can carry in your car but in a "case" like a glove box, without the magazine in the gun

They sell the guns because they're fun to shoot. The offer the classes so you can get a cc permit in other states.

I find myself wondering what would happen if a guy in Chicago was conceal carrying and he was at a bank cashing a check when 3 masked men come in with guns and ask for all the money, the guy gets his gun out without being seen and kills all three gunmen and saves everyone inside the bank. I bet he would probably go to jail for a long time.

Before Chicago's pistol ban was struck down, there would occasionally be a case of self-defense. Most recently was a year or two ago, when a pair of rats were throwing bricks at an elderly woman through her window. She shot one with an "illegal" pistol.

Turns out one of the punks, though a hardened thug already, was 14. He didn't die, but we got to hear the usual activist reporters moan about the "child" that was shot, what a "nice boy" he was, honor roll student at CPS in between arrests and bouts of truancy, etc.

Despite their bleating, the actual victim wasn't charged with anything, though I'm assuming her pistol was confiscated. Since the ban was struck down, they rammed through an equally unconstitutional registration program that no one is using. You can expect self defense episodes where the aggressors belong to a pet group to result in the media giving the mamas and rev'rens all the camera time they want to pretend the thugs were the victims, but even our nutjob prosecutors aren't likely to go to trial.

The city is an absolute disaster, but I think whatever law abiding citizens are left are starting to wake up.

I hope the best for Illinois. It would be great to have all 50 states with CC. Then as a nation we could start working on better reciprocity and more freedom for those with a permit. Also, we need to work on making all that states that aren't shall issue into shall issue states. It's BS that a state can bar your right to self defense by not allowing CC outright or in certain places. These laws seriously need to change.

I find myself wondering if you read the rules when you signed up. ie.. "Don't discuss illegal activity".

Carrying a handgun in Chicago (last I knew) was a felony. Unless you're prepared to deal w/ all the baggage that comes with a possible felony conviction (ie.. You can't own any guns at all, difficulty finding employment, etc..) then you really need to think about what you're doing.

I agree, but... unfortunately, Illinois is a LONG, LONG way from any form of concealed carry any time soon.

It was a theoretical scenario. He wasn't advocating that.

Now the guy yesterday who said he carries everywhere (and we where discussing Chicago specifically), HE was openly admitting breaking laws.

You've been around here long enough, many, MANY, have been "mod slapped" for discussing "theoretical scenarios" that were obviously illegal.

As the kids are getting older with one in college now, the wife and I are beginning to ponder where life may take us to live - maybe some place a little warmer.

There are many variables to consider, but the draconian firearm laws of Illinois take them off the list completely for me, period! (Granted, its not much warmer there anyway)

I have spent many months in Chicago on business and frankly, I really like the city itself. As I talk to co-workers who live in Chicagoland, upon occasion they have encouraged me to move to their great state. I respectfully decline. If they press for a reason and I know them well enough, I have told a few of them my absolute disagreement with their gun laws. They look at me like I am crazy.

It is a losing debate with those that have been steeped in the anti-gun lies for so many years. My observation has been they live for the moment with no retrospect of the freedoms so many people have died for or the disastrous direction our country is headed (in the broader sense).

Ugh! I better stop there as I am getting off topic. I have some great friends in Illinois, good people. But to the OP's point, your not going to see concealed carry any time soon in IL and the laws are pretty crazy for a "mid-western" city. I would expect to see this on the east or west coast - but not middle America. As others have already stated, as I understand it, the penalties are very serious as well (unless, or course, you have ties to Rahm or Richard - then its a free pass)

You would be arrested and, if convicted, have a high proabilty for jail time.

I moved to FL last year from IL and can tell you it is borderline cultural shock!:wow: Going in to the LGS, getting to handle firearms w/o FOID card being asked for, buying gun, and walking out with gun after purchase (only if you have CCP). This is an alien concept for former Illinois residents.
