I have both, and I had always loved the G30 as a carry weapon. Now that I have the Gen 4 G21, I have to say that it would be a tough choice, especially since you said it would be your home defense weapon too. Obviously, the G21 is harder to conceal, but it is such a great gun, I would probably choose it now.

I have carried both the G21 and G30, however, my preference has been to carry the G30 more and use the G21 as the night-time in home pistol. I bought the G30 first as for me it is a very easy shooting .45. I put a big dot night sight on the front for low light work.

If I could only have one, I'd do it the same way - G30 first, G21 later.

For me, if I can only have one handgun it will be a full size pistol. You can carry a full size G21 concealed. I conceal one with an X300 every day and that's with an OWB holster. I've also carried a 5" bbl P14-45 steel framed pistol that was my only handgun for years. For it, I used an IWB holster and it disappeared under an untucked t-shirt.

I am in the camp that believes under stress you will shoot a full framed weapon better than a compact. It's rare I carry a small gun (G27, j-frame, etc.) by itself. Usually they are my BUG to the full size pistol.

Good luck whatever you decide.

Not too thrilled with the Gen 4 guns. Just me but they are an answer to a non-existant problem. So I would go with the G30.

For all the guys that said the 30, does the grip feel as solid as a full frame gun? Is your draw as good with the pinky grip a little bit farther back? I really like the full frame gun so much.

If you could only buy one gun for a while to be used as home defense and ccw, would you pick the gen 4 glock 21 or the gen 3 glock 30? Thoughts?
My 30SF is my bedside gun with a tlr1 light and laser site. I carry an M&P
45 full size a lot so I'd say the 21.

I've carried full size service pistols like 1911's and G17's. The G21 isn't much larger.

But it takes dedication to dress around the gun.

The smaller grip on the G30 would be easier to conceal, and it would probably be my choice if I could only have 1 of the 2 to do double duty.

But right now a G23 is on my hip and it goes in the nightstand when I go to bed.

G30 so you can carry it. G21 mags for the Home. However, for CCW, nothing beats the G36.

I have the 21, the 30 and the 36. I carry the 36 and the other two are in the safe, loaded and ready to go.
I have a 21sf, 30sf, and 36. I carry the 36 a lot. I want to carry the 21sf on duty but have to get permission (fat chance) and I use the 30sf for GSSF.

Between the two you mentioned, I would go G30 for carry based on size alone.
