Out of the guns I list, what would you buy?
    Parameters:
    Guns I already own:
    Sig P6
    Glock 17
    Glock 23
    Browning BuckMark
    Various long guns.

These are the guns I am looking at:
    P225
    P228
    P228R
    P229
    P229R
    P226R
    All 9mm.

    Cost:
I would like to stay around $600, so new guns are kind of out, but I might be willing to spend $800 for a P225/P228.

    Time frame:
I will probably be able to buy a new pistol in 3-4 months. I need time to save and evaluate finances.

Forgot to add a purpose. Mainly HD/ Range, but I would put the P225 P228 P229 in a CCW role if/when possible.

Whichever Sig I got, it would be an older German built model, not that new Exeter crap.

    I'd probably go with a P228 or P225.

Bac, how can I tell where the gun was made? My P6 says Made in W. Germany. The new ones will say made in USA? Are the ones that say Frame made in Germany alright? How can I tell if it is Exeter crap?

id get an older 228. standard version like the military m11. they are pretty nice if you really want a sig. if you already have the P6, i wouldnt get a 225 as there arent too many differences in them. the P6 should be able to be converted back to a regular trigger and such. maybe im confusing the models but i think im right on this?

I'd probably change it to "Which 9mm Sig should I buy?" You might want to say West German too because that'll be half the replies.

I shouldn't say "crap", but the new Sigs made in Exeter aren't nearly as well built as the older models.

    West German are outstanding.

This. For a quality German pistol, look into the HK USP 9mm.

Also the Ruger SR9 is a decent hi cap 9mm option, and well within your price range.

P229. Wait, I just realized that all of your options are a la SIG. P229.

The CZ is something that I have thought about. I have been looking at P228's and it appears I may have missed the boat on those. The prices seem to keep going up. I don't like the way the full size USP feels in my hand. The compact USP feels good, but I can't get used to the mag release. Any good news about CPO P229's?

Bac, I take it the October 1983 P6 I have is a quality pistol? I've put 400 rounds through it and I think it is hands down my most accurate pistol. I am contemplating having the slide refinished and the import mark ground off by Customized Creationz. That would run me about $85 with shipping and then another $100 or so to have mepro's put on it. I think it will be a good carry gun. You guys think it is worth the $200 investment? I have been thinking about doing that and waiting on a new Sig. I shoot the P6 very well, and imagine I will shoot it even better when I get a lighter main spring and new sights on/in it.

    W. German 228. Really, really want to replace the one I had to sell a few years back. Sweet gun, liked it almost as well as my 92FS.

I stole that car last Satuday night. Popped open the glovebox on the way back to the shop and there was the CZ that I've been eyeing on Gunbroker! Found a nice high end camera in the trunk and thought I snap a few and share them with you. Who say's crime doesn't pay!

    Calm down, just kidding.

Of those you list I would rate my idea of purchasability (nice word, huh?) this way:

    P228 - hard to find
P229 - easy to find, great gun
P229R - easy to find, my current fav 9mm
P226R - easy to find, i like the grip on the 229/8 better.
P228R - these are very new and somewhat uncommon. I would not expect it to be a 600 gun yet.
    P225 - youve got a p6, fill other needs.

The 228/228R/229/229R are all so similiar. If you like the platform, they will do nicely.

The only problem will be your g17, g23, and p6 may suffer from the new attention your sig will get. :)
