Which state(s)?
He didn’t say what state. My interpretation of “now passing a law” is they’re considering passage of a proposal. As of right now, there are no states that have enacted a statewide ban on all semi auto pistols.

My home state is now passing a law banning all semi auto pistols.

What state is that?
NY. The bill A-7926A has passed our senate and our assembly and is headed to our governor for her to sign. In a nutshell it requires all semi auto pistols sold to be micro stamping enabled. Similar to California’s micro stamping requirement. What’s worse is that the bill is so badly written that it would apply to transfers as well. Here in NY you first must obtain a NY conceal carry permit before you can touch, posses or buy any pistol. Once you have the permit you have to get a purchase coupon from an FFL with the serial number and info of the pistol you are buying. You go to your county’s pistol permit office and give them the purchase coupon, pay 5 bucks to have it added to your permit, they issue an updated permit with the new serial number added, and then you go back and pickup your pistol from the FFL. So by also applying to transfer it effectively shuts down even person to person selling as NY would not allow new semi auto pistol serial numbers to be added to one’s permit

Is there a law enforcement exception in the law? These idiots did the same thing back in the original SAFE act to put in an exception to the school gun free zone, so for awhile , it could have been technically illegal for a police officer to respond to a school shooting armed . That’s how idiotic these lawmakers are in their rush to “ do something “.

I read the bill. It’s like CA bill but first the technology has to be certified by a certain agency or appointee for the law to come into effect.
Second, it doesn’t apply to guns made prior to that certification.
The offense is a 500 dollar fine and the loss of the dealer license. The penalties are for gun dealers although the it’s written, the 500 dollar fine could hit regular people if interpreted a certain way. But it’s aimed at dealers .
There is no law enforcement exception so I doubt the agency or appointee is going to make such declaration about the technology until its possible.

That might make sense if the alternatives were protecting your family or not. The real alternatives are protecting your family with a gun other than the one you like best, or going to prison. I'll take a .357/.44/.45 revolver against any 9mm right now, much less when I could go to prison for the wrong choice.
I was just replying to”it would make more sense to go unarmed than to carry an illegal gun for self defense” that you stated. I have no problem carrying a revolver. I’m waiting on my Don Hume leather to arrive for my 686+.

Seeing as my Glock is a G42, which I wish had a 32naa barrel available. . . but that is a different discussion. . .

I expect that I would go with a Charter Arms Professional.

It is one of the few modern 32 revolvers on the market (I just don't like the Ruger). However, that ugly grip would have to go.

If they go so far as to ban semi autos you better know it will be all guns. Look at Australia, New Zealand, and fixing to be Canada. You had better be looking for the best rock, club, kitchen knife, etc. if they have there way.

My Ruger SP101 or Taurus 85 Total Titanium. In the woods, my Ruger .357 Vaquero.

While I like these guns, let's hope it doesn't come to that.
