If the unthinkable happened and all semi-auto rifles were banned, what would be your go-to manually-operated rifle for home defense/SHTF?

I'm not looking for, "they'll never take my AR, dadgumit!" type answers; for the sake of argument, let's just assume that semi-autos are simply no longer available.

My top four picks would have to include:

    Remington 7615 in .223
    Marlin 336 in .30-30
    Marlin 1894 in .38/.357
    Ruger Gunsite Scout in .308

My Marlin 336 in 30-30 is my go-to woods/truck gun now, so not much would change for me. Doesn’t mean I’d give up my AR’s if I had some.

Is Remington still making the 7615? If not, they should bring it back. And maybe add .300 Blackout and .350 Legend versions.

I think any 16" barreled .357 lever gun would work pretty well in the HD scenario.

Or, you could pull that .303 Jungle Carbine out of the back of the safe.

I got that covered. 18 rounds of 'mild to wild' 45 Colt between the two of them.

I'd just go to an pump action AR. A Bolt action 556 that takes AR mags, same with 308. but would use a LA 30-30 and .45Colt

My 870 would be the most useful player. Everything else I have that is center fire takes a detachable box magazine. May have to consider alternatives.

The thought of the Remington 7615 is interesting, and that would be something to seek out and buy.

Either a Marlin 1894 in .44 Magnum or Winchester '94 Trapper in .44 Magnum would be nice to have.

Well if it came down to it nd I had to give up all my semi-auto rifles. I would just replace them with a mag. feed bolt action 50 cal. B.M.G. That will most assuredly will make them download in their pants. Then they can pass a law about smelly drawers with a prison term of life I prison. That will clean house that is needed to be done.

If the bad guy , heaven forbid, gets level 4 body armor what is the min caliber that is effective? ( pardon my ignorance. Not much of a rifle guy)

Take out his legs. He will forget all about that body armor. Headshot would work also.

General home defense would not change much at all. Remington 870 and Marlin 336 or Rossi 92 (.357). The 92 is handier as it is smaller, lighter, and has more capacity.

A Marlin lever action in .357 magnum or .30-30 would be hard to beat.

The Ruger American Ranch rifle in .223 or .300blk would be a solid choice also.

Truth is I was a shotgun gun guy before the AR boom a few years ago. I’d probably just rely on a 870 pump with #4 and slugs buck again.

I would bet if that were the case, we'd see some pump rifles built like pump shotguns. Which is what I would want.

There are test videos on Youtube of people hitting level 4 plates with some heavy hitting stuff and the plates standing the hits. Like Glockdude said, either aim for the pelvis area to immobilize the attacker or aim for the head. Keep in mind the hips/pelvis are a larger target and they dont duck and move as quick.

This not to say that a hit with a .223 or larger would have no effect on level 4 plates, but its not likely to actually punch through unless you hit several times.

Mid 70's I bought one. Good Lord that is a hard kicking monster! I'd get the bruised shoulder most times shooting it.

Good ole pump shotgun and a 30-30 too, to hunt for food.
I have a few bolt guns for long range if needed.
