Last night I was on the way home from dinner with my wife and was pulled over by a local LEO. I was carrying my S&W 642 on an IWB holster and was a little nervous since I had never had a CCW on my person when in contact with and LEO before. I believe that according to KS law, one does not HAVE to present a CCW license unless the LEO requests it, but I presented my ccw permit along with my license and proof of insurance anyway. The LEO took one look at the CCW permit and asked me if I was carrying now, to which I responded "yes", he then asked me where I was carrying it and what was I carrying. After I answered his questions briefly, he said thank you and gave me my permit back. After running my plates he approached the car again, handed me my license back and thanked me for my cooperation, all without issuing a ticket or even a warning for the one headlight that was out. Thoughts? Similar experiences?

Ive been pulled over twice since Ive been carrying. The first was for not having my license plate mounted to the front of my car(it was visible through my windshield though). Handed my DL, CHL, and ins to the officer, he handed my CHL back really fast, went to run my license, returned, gave me a polite verbal warning and that was it.

The second, I was on my way to the gym after work, got pulled over, I had all my info ready to go. He told me my turn signals needed to be amber or red(the car had white ones that came with the car) Handed everything back, gave me a poilte warning and we parted ways.

I second that thought.

Where is KS, was it local city, SO, or state LEO? I have done it both ways, notify and not notify and it's been ok either way. Twice I've been disarmed by city police or they took firearm. At this point in my life, I plan to notify (as you did) not primarily because of courtesy or getting our of tickets but because of safety reasons. However, I reserve the right....one incident over in MO, I never said a word to the officer the entire stop and that including not mentioning my permit. So it depends on the situation.

wow cops are so great! i can't believe they are all so great and things. this is so cool. i am refreshed and surprised and stuff like that.

they didn't abuse their authority, they really deserve a medal for that (given that is not the norm)

(mocking and sarcasm off)

they are like everyone else....unfortunately some of them think they are elite and special. hey some of em might be.

I doubt you got away from your equipment malfunction with just a warning because you had a ccw license. Almost everyone gets warnings for headlights out around here without a second thought.

AZCCW permit helped get me out of a few speeding tickets in Arizona, and one recently in Kansas.

I believe most COPS recognize a CCW permit holder has had a background check and has been fingerprinted......in short he's a good guy.

Just my opinion...

I must have missed the part where he claimed that to be the reason he got off with a warning!?!
