My wife has taken to hiding away in the bedroom at night with her laptop. I currently use a Dell desktop.

I'd like a cheap ($700 or so) laptop. All I want it for is for surfing the net and watching DVDs so it doesn't need all the bells and whistles.

    Requirements are:

    DVD-ROM
    Widescreen (maybe)
    Wireless ethernet card.

If you're looking to get it quickly, you may be able to get a little better than you're looking for if you use this:

Ok, I just checked. Apparently you don't need the code currently-it seems to apply it automatically. But I'd check the deal site for other stuff as well.

Dell laptops are about as good as any other maker's, though if you like using Apple OSes, their laptops have a lower failure rate than all but a couple PC-based laptops...

Do yourself a favor and upgrade the CPU and battery package at the time of purchase. You'll really wish you had later if you don't. And yes, they really do want $100 for a Li ion battery.

Toshiba has a good rep, too.
