I decided on the D50 between the D70/D50 lineup... and now I want it so bad!

I've got pictures to take! Cool pictures! My Sony F707 is just not cutting it anymore.

<----suffering from a severe case of Canon 20D lust. :( (brought on by substandard Kodak CX7430) Would also gladly take either the D70/D50.

I love my 20D!!! Go get one!!

A while back I got a USA NIB Canon 70-200 f/2.8 Lseries (white) lens for a great price on eBay. Great combo.

Obviously the full sized images look a LOT better:

Neph, I would think a new bambino would be a good enough excuse for a camera upgrade!

You bet your *** it is. I've got a brand new Nikon N50 with a 1.0 gig 60x Sandisk II SD Card. Rock.

I've had it out of the box for less than 14 hours now (8 of those spent sleeping, lol) and I've taken 173 pictures.

    Here are some samples:

I took this picture of a cardinal bathing in a puddle from about 10-15 feet away using the stock lense. I got about 35 sequential photos of him splashing water and bathing. I only wish I had a more powerful lense for the task!

    Nice pics, Nephilim.

Is the D50 above or below the D70?

I was going back and forth on the 20D and the D70. Finally went with the canon, mainly because I already have Canon gear.

The one lens I would really like would be a fast (1.8 ish) fixed lens, maybe a 50mm (would equate to 75mm with the crop factor).

The D50 is nearly identical to the D70s except for a few points. Apparently those few points change the pricetag from $1199 to $899 with the D50 being the cheaper of the too.

There are features present and missing on both models, and for the price... the tiny features I wasn't getting with the D70s didn't bother me.

Here is a point by point table comparison for you:

I will probably go with a D70 or D70s because I already have CF cards and would have to buy $150 worth of SD cards if I bought the D50.
I have some great prime Nikon lenses as well as some expensive zoom lenses to use.
I cannot even consider the Canon line, although I believe their high end line of IS telephotos are better than the Nikkors. Almost all sports and news photographers use them now.
The discontinued D70 will not be available for long at the reduced prices.

The new D-70s.dont be fooled by the 699 price on an old D70 and you think your buying the new D-70s!imho the D50 is the one to get 2 inch LCD where as the D70 only has the 1.8!but you can get the new D70s so your not one uped by a cheaper version of nikons consumer DSLR.
