After a life time of talking anti-gun **** to friends and family I made a concession during a debate (this was back in 2014): I'd buy a gun to join a well regulated militia in defending my state.

It seemed like folks cherry picked that "right to bear arms" part and forgot about the rest. It was sort of a drunken joke at the time but I've thought long and hard about that debate since then.

Not owning a gun meant I was willfully waiving a constitutional right. Even before big government imposed their will on my state, I wanted to own a gun sooner or later.

Suffice it to say, I just made my very first gun purchase earlier today. A so-called 1st gen glock 19 should be ready for me to pick up in less than 10 days.

Congrats on the g19 and welcome to GT and the 2nd amendment.

Welcome, congrats on the G19.1
And dont wait as long this time to buy your second one!

What made you stop being a hater (???)
It was an accumulation over time. I think the recent catalyst was the smell of tear gas on my way to the pharmacy.

Every law abiding, gun owning citizen is a member of their state militia in a sense.

Can't grab the musket off the mantel of you ain't got one.

Welcome. Shooting is also a wonderful self-competing sport. Like golf.
