I thinking of a 20SF - are the recent ones with a shiny slide again?

    Hi Everyone,

It may seem like a small thing, but I sure like the shiny slide - for those of you who have ordered one recently, what type of slide did it come with??

    Thanks,

    Alan

Hi sir....Glock never had a shiney slide. If you see a shiny slide you're looking at an aftermarket Plating or polishing job. Cost extra, but GLOCK doesn't do it. Several companies do plate or polish Glock slides.

    Hi,

Sorry, I should have been more specific - I mean the "shiny" teflon type black slide instead of the duller, gray slides I have seen.

    Thanks,

    Alan

He does not mean shiny like chrome.

There was in fact a period of time where Glock had different finishes on their slides and barrels and one finish is much more dull and scratches much easier than it's "shinier" counterpart.

Don't know about the Gen 3 stuff (20SF) but I just bought a new Gen 4 G19, and it has the shiny slide.

I also like it a lot better than that flat grey-black finish they did for a while.

It seems like they RECENTLY did a short run of the gray, matte slides in both G20 and G29 but I just got a Gen3 G29SF (serial number TANxxx) and it appears they went BACK to the shiny slides.... I'd say the gray slides were between about rxx-xxx and sxx-xxx or so ...

Thanks! I was so very pleased to find a 20SF with the slide I like. I need to get some ammo loaded so I can go shoot it!!

Glad you found your Shiny Slide.

I just bought a new Gen3 G20SF about two weeks ago and it's slide looks like every other I've owned since '96. I guess ive never been unlucky enough to have come across a dull slide. Congrats Alan. You're going to love your new 20.

    Hi,

Thanks; I made a bicycle tube grip for it last night. Some trijicon sights are coming today via UPS so I can't wait to get them on. I can't wait for the temps to drop a bit so I can go shoot it - it is supposed to be a real 110 deg F this weekend!

Some people like the dull or grayish slides because they aren't as slick, but I've seen where they don't hold up well to holster wear, etc. I really like the shiny black teflon type finish as a Glock can be years old with plenty of use and still look new.

When I get it fully done, I'll try to get a pic up!

    Thanks,

    Alan

My 20sf serial prefix NTA from 2009 has the glossy finish. I do like it but I prefer the dull finish of old and now new Glocks. Guess I'm not a fan of shiny guns especially Glocks

My G29SF has the flat matte finish and has the serial RUT***. I believe it was produced in early 2011.

I too just got a new G20SF. It was made 6-19-12, serial #TER-xxx. It appears to be matte to me. hard to compare it to my other glock since it has so much holster wear

Do you think it's matte grey? what does Glock call this different finish?
