Went to the range today with a friend of mine and his girl friends seven year old son. We went over all of the safety rules with him and let him handle the pistol ( Walther P99 40 ) unloaded with our supervision to get him used to holding and handling it. Then we would load each mag with one round and we took turns backing him up and training him. The 40 had a little too much muzzle flip for him but he did very good and had a great time.
Then we went to the rifle range and Ken Hackathorn was just finishing up training some foreigners. They were having carbine training. Of course my first question was " did you guys pick up your brass ". That got a few smiles. They said no and told me the different yardages they were shooting at. I ended up picking up around 500 cases. I bet we could have got around 1,000 but the grass was long and they were hard to find. I almost forgot, the seven year old had a great time shooting the AR and handled it very good. He also had a great time picking up brass.
