I put the “hammer down” on another MI 7 point white-tailed buck last night (10/27/02) just before dark.

It came into a doe decoy with only a few bleats from the “CAN”.

30 yard shot quartering to me. This deer was down for the count within 10 seconds max. He made it 30 yards before he pilled up in the corn stalks.

I’m thinking sausage, sausage sticks & jerky are the way this one’s headed! I’m making myself hungry just thinking about it…

    Thought I’d share!:)

“Political Correct” picture attached: (e-mail me if you’d like to see this picture in it’s entirety, it’s a little bloody, but not too bad.)

    Thanks guys!

I had him "aged" by the Michigan DNR last night & he's a 1-1/2 old deer. We have a bunch of this style buck running around the area I hunt... tall, narrow basket type racks. He's no "monster buck", but he'll do just fine! Looks like I'll be getting right around 70 lbs of meet from this bad boy according to my local "deer processor". Mmmm.......:)

In MI you get only 2 bucks per year is all. 1 can be anything buck wise, but it can’t be a “button buck”. Your next deer has to have 4 or more points on at least 1 side. We call them “little buck tags” & “big buck tags”. You can shoot them in reverse if you want, that’s legal. So basically I’m done with “horns” this year, which is both good & bad… I still have 3 weeks of bow hunting left. (The rut hasn’t even started up here yet!) Gun season is after that, then more bow hunting, then muzzleloading season & then more bow hunting! I have 2 doe tags that could stand to be “filled” so I can keep “go ‘in afield”.

You think that's something, you should have seen the rack on the one I got. It must have been at least 10 feet tall with about a 3 foot spread. Damn monster.

If that tree would have gotten out of the way, I would have hit the doe behind it. Cost me one broadhead, but the arrow was fine. :)

ithaca_deerslayer, we're talking "deer hunting stories" here, not "fishing stories"...;)

The trees over here give us problems too, however, they tend to "jump from out of no where" for are arrows!:)

great looking deer... i also have to commend you for posting the pic in the mannor in which you did. several hunters would not care who saw blood guts or other innards. you showed a great deer and helped to make hunters everywhere look a little better. do not consider yourself p.c. just conciderate.

    thanks
    a fellow hunter
    chris

p.s. pardon the spelling it is late

Thanks yet again guys. If you can’t tell, I was/am a little pumped up about this years bow season & it’s yield so far. This is my 1st “2-buck year” & also for the fact they both came from my bow, makes it even better!

pt945, thanks for those kind words. I don’t bend over backwards to be PC all of the time, but I really actually didn’t look at this one as being PC either, I find it to be courteous. Sometimes you can do more harm then good, you know?

I just picked up the “snail pictures” from the photo shop, figured I’d share another one:

By the way, that arrow isn’t sticking out of the deer; it’s just leaning on the deer to get its self in the pictures.

Hey, that looks like a crossbow. Never shot one. Not legal in NYS. What's the range without correction for bolt drop?

For example, my old bow shoots pretty flat out to 25 yards, but by 30 yards I have to elevate or else the arrow drops out of the kill zone. My .22LR rifle gives me a 75 yard range. My .30-06 gives me a 250 yard range.

I think the techno-speak thingie I'm asking about is the point-blank range, or something like that.
