I need a one way valve to make a big percolator.

Can somebody tell me what something like this would be called?

I'm going to run some copper wire from the bottom of the cattle trough. Run it over a fire with a few coils, then back into the cattle trough near the top of the water. As the cold water is heated in the copper, it will expand pushing the warm water into the trough. That will leave a vacuum in the pipe and so cold water will be sucked in through the valve. Then it starts over again. I just need to know what valve to go buy.

    A still? :D

A one-way valve might do it.

Backflow preventer or a check valve.

Would the suction caused by the evaporation be sufficient to open the valve? I doubt it. I think you'll end up with a dry coil and water just sitting in the trough.

What, exactly, are you trying to accomplish with this contraption?

Thermostatic control valve, like used on old house radiators.

It's not evaporation. It's expansion which forces some of the hot water to flow over the high point and into the tub. That leaves the tube with less water than the cattle trough. It's just like a coffee maker works.

Oh, it's a hot tub. Not a still.
