I'm looking to stay under $100. A person can go crazy looking at all the models available. I've always used inkjets, but am open to others if they are more easy on the ink usage. My needs aren't that extravagant. I just want to print, scan, and copy.

What do you folks recommend? I'm not too fond of HP by the way.

Bought one yesterday... I went to get ink for my HP inkjet at Best Buy and it was $79... the Brother lazer HL-L2390 was $99 and prints 700 pages with the cartridge that came with it, and 1200 with the replacement for $44.

No brainer...and it’s faster and quieter than the inkjet.

    Here's your answer ^^^

Namely this one if you don't need an ADF...

    Toner:

I've been using a 2380 in my construction office and I'm almost printing for free.
I use generic toner cartridges from Newegg and the last ones were $19.99 for a two pack.
    Full size carts.

The new model is HL-L2390DW and Newegg doesn't have carts for it yet.
It is on special at Amazon for $99.99

Black laser is the only way to go. Why would you ever need to print anything in color?

And if you say well what about photos? I can only assume you're at least 70 years old, no time left to sit around enjoying photos.

I'll be 65 in 3 weeks. And I'm not going to drop over dead anytime soon. So I'm sorry to disappoint you.

ETA: So I guess that I should just curl up in bed and wait for the grim reaper. Sorry to disappoint you again, but that ain't gonna happen.

Love my Canon MP250 PIXMA. Replacement ink is reasonable. I have had mine 7 years.

I wait for the sales in my e-mail. Just got a bunch of photo-books with unlimited extra pages and free shipping. And 40% off the book, IIRC. If you use their app, photos are always free, I believe.
EDIT, I put photos I want to save in folders on my computer (usually by date or event) and upload to individual albums at Shutterfly, where they are stored for free and can be viewed online, publicly or by invitation only. When there is a sale, I go and print whatever albums or portions of albums I want.

I just went through this and I've got a Canon Pixma TS5120 being delivered (for free) on Monday. Found it online at Walmart for $49.99 on a rollback from $99.99. I can't vouch for it yet but, for the price, it got really good reviews. My love/hate thing with HP is currently on hate.

I'm using an Epson. Sucker wont print black unless ALL the colors have ink. The builders should give the printers away for all the profit they make on ink. A Brother laser when the $ are handy. Keep the ink jet for scanning.

    I'm a Canon junky.
Reprogramming for disc printing, refilling, the works.
But for everyday document printing the lasers posted above are the best way.
With the $10 generic toner carts, you are almost printing for free.
    No-brainer for printing docs.

If you want color and don't want to get screwed by in costs get a canon with the ink tanks. Costs more upfront but the ink is cheap and lasts a long time.

HP is the Devil. HP's highest source of corporate income comes from ink sales.

That's right and they were built about 1/2 mile away from my present location.
There is still a machine testing and ink development facility here.
    Everything else is overseas.

So, if you find yourself with an inkjet that uses a tri-color cartridge, get rid of it.
    Or feed the HP coffers.
