Being mobile auto glass service, I was going to a job to a customers work place, which has a gated entrance. The customer called his boss to let me in when I arrived, in which the gate opened for me. I proceeded to drive thru the gate and instead of making the first left turn with signage, I didn’t see. I drove my 8.5’ van under petroleum pipes. About 5 men ran out in front of me to make me stop. I can tell you that I never felt so stupid in years. No harm done, just a lesson learned.

Are you not supposed to drive under petroleum pipes?

A very valid question. Context is important.

So low clearance? Or security concerns?

I don't often drive truck, but I did today. At one of my stops I got out, opened up the curtainside and realized I was right on some lines. I thought I really need to pay attention to what's above me. At the next stop I pulled to the curb and banged a tree limb. It gave me more respect for the people who do it every day. Experience pays in all jobs.

Ok I just wondered as you mentioned the height of your van, under petroleum pipes. Pipes less then 9’ high in car area??

I still don't get it. So you need a security clearance to replace windshields?

The place I was going to the job was a petroleum company. Instead of turning left I went straight in, which was a restricted area.
