So I walk out on my front porch to throw a can in the recycling bin, and my feet totally slipped out from under me and WHAM! I went flat out on my back. I soaked the entire back of my shirt and cussed like a sailor for about 5 minutes.

The point of the thread was to give Galco huge kudos on their holsters!!! I am carrying my gov. 1911 OWB in one of their "concealable" holsters and two single mag carriers on my off side. Everything stayed in place perfectly.

I was pretty angry at first, but am laughing about it now. I have not taken a hit like that in a while. :embarassed:

Years and years ago, my uncle and I were coming down his stairs and he slipped and fell (UP + January = ice.)

Neighbor glances over, asks, "Did you fall, Dan?"
Uncle replies, "No, I always come out this way. It's faster."

He later told my aunt that he did a turn and a half off the porch.

Dang, he was a fine man.

That is a fairly correct back fall. The only thing I would recommend differently is slapping out at a 45 degree angle to your body, not above your head. It dissipates the momentum the same, but you don't have to worry about your hands going where you can't see, and more importantly, they'll be closer to your gun.

To actually execute breakfalls at speed and out of the blue takes a lot of practice, however.

:rofl:The only difference is that my gun would have come out of the holster hot. LOL

I REALLY felt like doing just that. I probably could have gotten away with it too but I did not want to waste my premium carry ammo on a plastic bin.

Yes, it sure does show you that, and thank you for the kind words.

It was one of those deals where it just happened so lightening fast that I did not even have time to get my hands down to help break my fall. My back took almost the entire impact. That God I landed flat on it though and did not smack my head in the process.

Many martial arts teach rolls and break falls. However, rather than focusing on the 45 degree angle slap, focus on tucking your head in. When teaching DT's, I see so many that want to arch their back when they fall to the rear; thus their head is the first body part to strike the ground. (On that note, if you fall forward, turn your head to the left or right to reduce impact/trauma.)

So, we go back to the basics: Protect the head! Once you have the first part of the basics down, you can move on to the next part. Yes, breakfalls take a little bit of practice. But once you have them down it's like riding a bike, the technique stays with you for a long time.

Yeah, I fall down the stairs probably every 2 months or so....so far I have been lucky and not been seriously injured. Glad you weren't hurt, it is super funny to see someone fall flat...but only if they get right back up! :)

Ha! Good old Uncle Dan. I remember when he went to the blacksmith's shop. There was a horseshoe cooling in the sawdust. Dan picked it up and dropped it right away.

"Kinda hot, ain't it, Dan," said the blacksmith.

"Nope," your uncle Dan replied, "Just don't take me long to look at a horseshoe."
