I also hope they nuke the penny. Several good reasons:

    1. A dollar is worth about what a quarter was when I was a kid.
    Buy a Coke? Coin.
    Piece of candy? Coin
    Tip to the cabbie? Coin

    2. Pennies are almost worthless. They cost more to make than they are worth. Much like the "thousandths of a dollar" on gas prices ($3.599 per gallon), the penny represents a fraction of a dollar (1/100) that can't buy anything. Get rid of it.

    3. Eliminating both would leave us with the smallest bill in our pocket as a $5. 1/100 of that would be the nickel. And, the dollar coin would represent 1/5 of the $5, similar to how our current quarter is 1/4 of our current dollar bill.

Thus, we would be left with a similar mixture of bills and coins as thirty years ago, while eliminating the expense and hassle of circulating the smallest bill (that has the buying power of a coin) and the, almost literally, worthless penny.

Hahahaha ha. Yeah. We've never been down this road before.

    Won't happen. Should, but won't.

It'll be awkward giving strippers coins instead of dollar bills.

No thanks, I've spent enough time in canada to hate it. Always end up with 5 pounds of change in your pocket after buying a candy bar.

If they do it, they need to bring back large scale use of the $2 bill.

Dammit. I searched "dollar bill" and got NOTHING.

I hate it when that happens.

I like the dollar coins, but fixing every cash register and point of sale software package out there to round to the nearest nickel would suck. Who carries cash any more anyway?

Why we haven't updated our currency denominations since the 1920's is beyond me.

I agree. My teenage kids, about to head out with friends, get slipped a $20 in the same way my old man used to give me a $5. That was worth a burger and movie or a few rounds of bowling or mini-golf. Same for $20, now.

I don't mind the coins but I tend to accumulate one dollar bills so that will be a PITA. Guess I will have to just make a point of counting out dollar coins whenever I can to get rid of them instead of popping a ten or twenty.

<<<< Wishes they would start printing 500 and 1000 dollar bills again. Sucks trying to pay cash for something and packing a wad of hundreds that would choke a horse.

10 years ago $5 was the mimum yo had to pay to get a stripper to do anything other than slide by collecting your ones.

Now you probably need a twenty and your own ping pong balls for anything worthwhile.

If the gubmint would stop printing money without having something to back it up this wouldn't be a problem.

Instead of making it rain in da club,
    One could make it hail.
