I decided to get up this morning and go far a little walk in the woods. I figured what the hey, I'll go to the mountain. Well it's been quite a while since I took a little walk in the woods. If I remember correctly, the last time I did was because I was compelled to by uncle sam. But I got out of the Corps in '98 and have pretty much been a couch potato ever since. I'm trying to break that and get back into some kind of shape other than round.

    Observations:

Hiking Kennesaw mountain is not a little walk in the woods.
Metro Atlanta must have all the most beautiful women in the world. They're everywhere.
Everyone else seemed prepared except me.
I need to arm myself for doing the mountain.
Better footwear is a must. My 6 year old Nikes ain't cutting it.

The part I need you guys help with:

I need recommendations for footwear. Something that will hold up to the mountain and still be OK for everyday wear.

I need a pack. Nothing too huge. Something to carry water, a small first aid kit, maybe a power bar or two, sunscreen, bug spray, sunglasses, etc. When the weather warms up I'm going to have to have water.

And what clothing is recommended for cool weather hiking? I wore a hoodie and cargo shorts. My legs were really cold until they started burning. And my hands were cold, but I couldn't safely keep them in my pockets.

This is the pack I had in mind.

Is that near the beginning of the appalatchian trail? Always wanted to hike a part of it. Never would be able to make 2178 miles to go all the way.

I have that same Camelback and it's fine but I don't like anything around my waist (it gets in the way of my IWB holster). Check this out:

I would recommend a Draco AK47 with orange painted barrel slung over the shoulder.
