It's very inconvenient to constantly boot up my laptop just to check wireless access when away from home. I'm interested in finding a small, portable, easy-to-use signal locator to use, instead.

    1. Do reliable hot spot locators exist?

    2. Do any of them indicate signal strength direction?

    3. Where are some of the best places to purchase?

    4. Any online reviews and/or recommendations?

    Suggestions?

(I already tried the GT search feature, but didn't find anything relevant.)

There are several models out there. I just did a quick google search and this is the first link that popped up.

OOne thing I forgot to say is be aware of where you use said device. Some localities consider using one’s neighbors internet the same as stealing. Something similar to say stealing cable TV or satellite. But if you are in a coffee shop or hotel/airport no worries.

But I’m no expert, so I could be misstating facts.

    Thanks...I understand.

I'm interested in using my laptop from the parking lot (for example) while waiting for a family member shopping in the mall or waiting while a family member is seeing the dentist, etc. - that type of thing.
