I must have lost my mind because I am going back and forth on whether or not to buy the new Charter Arms Pit Bull .40S&W revolver. It is their new revolver for the rimless .40S&W round that does not use moon clips.

I have always considered Charter Arms to be a low end maker for revolvers (even though I have little experience with them) and never considered buying one. Now I find myself weirdly drawn to this odd little revolver.

What does everyone else think? Have you seen this one? Do you have experience with Charter Arms? is it worth it? I can get it for under $400.

It is an interesting idea, especially the lack of moon clips. I might pick one up just because it is unique.

I have been looking for the 9mm to come out. I am interested in it as my FIRST wheel gun.

I personally think the lack of moon clips is a negative. If one of those rimless rounds pops off that fancy ejector star you will wish you had a moon clip. My experience with Charter only includes the older ones and I wasn't impressed.

I am interested in getting a Bulldog in 40 S&W as well. I do not own a revolver and would like to have one. The Charter Arms CARR (Rimmless Revolver) would also mean I do not have to start buying a different ammunition. All my handguns (three of them, which all fell to the bottom of a lake :whistling:) are in 40 S&W.

The Charter Arms revolvers I have looked at do not have the fit and finish of Smith and Wesson or Ruger. But the Charter Arms CARR is somewhat a newer gun design. I know, the Bulldog is not new, but the CARR aspect is. I will wait until the price get into the mid $300 range. $400 plus is high for Charter Arms in my opinion.

I do have to admit that I think the main reason I want it is the cute little puppy on the barrel. Plus, it might be nice to see if I could refine the finishing a bit.

It is interesting, price seems a bit high. I haven't seen one for less than $390. For few bucks more I can get a Glock 27 or an M&Pc.
Yeah, but those are not a .40S&W revolver. Plus, most people already have one of those.

Man that is a cool concept. I played with a Rossi similar in concept a few months ago, in 9mm. However, the rounds just kind of laid in the cylinder on the Rossi, they weren't "locked" into place like they are in that Charter Arms. As long as the price is right, as in low to mid 300s, I would say grab the gun. Just make sure you get to play with the actual gun you will be taking home to ensure proper fit and finish. I've handled many Charter Arms' before and they can be hit or miss, no pun intended, so (just like with a Romy AK) make sure the one you're buying was put together by someone competent.

If you're used to quality, you won't like anything made by Charter Arms. The "Uniqueness" of their products is a substitute for quality.

When you work the action, cylinder & ejector, the rough, scratchy feeling will make you say "yuk." I had a Charter Bulldog 44 that worked OK......until the cylinder stopped opening & closing after a couple hundred rounds.

I understand the appeal of an unusual gun. I felt that way when I bought a new S&W 625 eight years ago, but I got the quality I expected & it's one of the most accurate guns I own.

Well, this was a short lived dream. I just found out that the charter arm guns have a plastic grip frame and trigger guard. Are you kidding me? Plastic grip frame and trigger guard?

I wonder if it will, "Kick too much?"

(We all know how snappy the .40 is.)

On a serious note, that's actually not a bad little snub. I'm interested! I haven't heard of this little gun until now!
