Reading a local news story, says they were inspecting people's car seats and showing them how to properly use them.

Some 80% they say aren't installed properly, and "that is why automobile accidents are they leading cause of death in children under 14 year of age".

I said HOLY CRAP, MY MOM DIDN'T PUT ME IN A CAR SEAT TIL I WAS 14!

Just wait on Mother's Day, I'm not even going to call her. Risking my life for years like that.

I'm pretty sure he means he's mad at his mom for not keeping him in a car seat untill he was 14, as this article suggests one should do. :whistling:

ETA, now I think you were joking and I just Zoolandered myself.

No car seats, just lap belts (never used) Sitting in the middle of the front seat, or on my mothers lap, as they both smoked away like chimneys. My old man with a can of Schaefer between his legs....we didn't need no properly installed car seats.

or standing on "the hump" looking over the front seat, or if it was a truck, sitting on the tire well in the bed.

I don't think that in 1954 when I was born they even thought about car seats?
I don't ever remember one of coarse they didn't have seat belts then so what good would a car seat be?

My little brother learned how to skateboard on the drive line hump of my Mom's 70 SS Camaro
She also knew that judicious braking/acceleration would hamper a sibling BATTLE ROYAL

when I was a kid, there were no cars, nor seats.

Horses did not have ABS, seatbelts, or airbags.

I remember for awhile my dad had a Chevy Blazer with 2 bucket seats and nothing else. It had like red astroturf for carpet in the back and it was very uncomfortable. So naturally I sat on the beer cooler in between the seats, with my older sister riding shotgun.

I had both of them seatbelt me with their arms several times.

My Mother once told me that my Grand Father used to cut the seatbelts out of the car. He had some theory that if you had an accident you would be "safely thrown from the wreck" and seatbelts inhibited that.

I think typo -- should be 4 YOA.

My parents never put me in a car seat, but I was always within backhand distance. If there was a crash, I'm sure I would have been backhanded to safety.

At the age of about 6 I was in my dads lap doing the driving chore's while he did the gas and brake pedal's. We worked pretty good together until I got legs long enuf to reach the pedals myself. I did all of this in a 1949 Dodge Sedan.

man,my mom had a 67 Ford fairlane and i was jumping up and down on the back seat until she got sick of warning me and jammed the brakes.that was in the 70`s and i don`t think that car even had seat belts.she used the arm over the chest restraint.
lap belts were`nt mandatory until 68.

When I was a tot, it was not required that we be strapped in.

Once I, standing on the front seat, went flying into the window when me mum had a hard brake. I still remember sitting unbuckled next to her and every time she braked she would move her right arm in front of me thinking it would hold me back.
