My body hates it even more. Managed to make myself tired enough to go to bed at midnight tonight... woke up every hour or so and I've given up.

Why can't they hold training classes for us midnight guys?

It's a difficult transition, no doubt.

I'll be with ya, soon. We do 8 week rotations, and I'll be going from 6p-6a to 6a-6p. I hate waking up early, but the rest will be alright.

I am not a morning person, and I hate dayshift. For some reason our higher ups seem to think that its a good idea to go from graves 10p-8a to days 730a-530p. It would make much more sense to go from graves back to nights 515p-315a.

I do as few days as possible.

I have to go from graves to days for training for a week in March. I don't care for it, but it is what it is.

Then, someone has decided to push doing the odd shift other than your usual again.

bro, where i work the saying is.....on nights the duty is great but the hours suck, and vise versa for days.

im on day shift again because i have a family and can spend more time with them, but i often have to look at my kid's picture, grit my teeth and put up with "the brass" and remember why i chose to stay on this shift.

we rotate every 3 months unless there is somebody who will switch with you to stay on a certain shift.

I'm 38 now, and I've been working shift work my entire adult life (4 yrs dispatcher/16 years as a cop).

If I never had to see the sun through the windshield of a patrol car again, I'd be thrilled.

I work the 11pm to 7am shift and that's my partner's and my question. The shift isn't so bad until they schedule mandatory training for an hour after our shift is over.

I just picked my next years shifts. Swing, days, days. The yard makes me fat and I really like sleeping at night. I can sleep anytime though. I do have to get my haircut once in a while while on dayshift. I hate haircuts.

I did rotating shift work for 20 years, and I can vouch for the fact that it takes a toll on your body as well as your mind.

My friends tell me now that I am on steady days I am a WHOLE lot less grouchy.

We work 12 hour shifts. Daylight for a month, then rotate to nights for a month. 6 to 6 either way.

The nice thing about nights is that when I get home and get to bed, I sleep until I wake up. Period. When I work days, the alarm gets me up at Oh-Dark-Thirty and no matter how early I go to bed, I'm exhausted in the mornings.

The downside to nights is that when you finish working your last night shift before starting your daylight month, you actually loose 12 hours off. Not really a big deal I guess. Mostly just annoys my wife.
