It’s Saturday night. We need groceries. I tell My wife I’ll drive if she will run in. She heads out to the truck in a hoodie and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle PJ bottoms. I think OK, Walmart run.

Nope. The nice, upscale grocery store just down the street. Just before closing. Where all the neighbors go shopping on Saturday night. The neighbors I go to church with. All shopping tonight so they don’t need to go shopping on the sabbath.

Will the ward members really judge based on the ninja turtle pj’s?

all I know is Wally World has been the only place with a constant stock of our jalapeño poppers in stock. Safeway hasn’t had them in weeks. They are a Sunday night necessity!!!

They're all at Costco after church on Sunday. It's a different game there.

Not really. Just odd looks. We are probably looked at as one of the weird families anyway. We have a sign over the front door as you go out. It says “remember everyone thinks we are a nice normal family”.

Wait, your grocery stores close? Like they have locks on the doors? :)

We are so spoiled by Wegmans. They close 36 hours a year.

Most close here at midnight. A couple are 24 hours. Most of them used to be 24 hours but found that between midnight and 5:00 not enough people were coming in to make any money. Lots of problems with theft at that time though. Midnight to 5:00 is stocking and cleaning crews. A few extend the hours in the summer. No one wants to go shopping at 3:00am in the winter.

Stocking in a 24hr is an issue. It seems like we are always trying to get around pallets and stocking carts. Wegmans makes most vendors stock shelves if they want space in the store. This leads to a lot of confusion for some because people assume they are employees. The Coke stocking guy has no clue where dog food is.

Denny’s Restaurants had a “we never close” philosophy. New CEO decided to close for Christmas. Oops! Needed thousands of front door locks installed.

Not trying to start a religious war here but Sunday isn’t the sabbath , that’s all pagan belief along with a lot of popular holidays. The Bible actually talks against Christmas decorations and such.

Sincerely excuse my ignorance but isn’t the Sabbath Friday night until Saturday night?

also, why can’t you shop on the Sabbath?

My faith observes the sabbath as Sunday.

Exodus 20:8. Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy. This includes no unnecessary shopping.

Thanks. I try. Don’t always do real good. If I can do shopping on Saturday I have Sunday for church, family etc without interruption.
