in fact even though I live in So Cal, it's been months since I've seen the ocean.

Say what you want about California, but I'm never leaving.

I was at Dana Point this morning. I left there headed to Catalina.

I have never understood the Cali hate on here. Sure there are some dumb gun laws and some loser liberals. Name one perfect place? It doesn't exist, there is always something that is less than ideal.

We love living here. We went surfing last week. Diving in Catalina this weekend. Snow skiing in Big Bear is next weekend. Plan on going to Vegas for the Super Bowl. So much to see and do here, but to each their own.

Looks beautiful. Biggest con I can see is that it looks a little congested.

And yeah, I think the cali hate is mainly the gun laws. Remember, we won't watch a movie if we think one of the actors playing pretend in it doesn't agree with us in real life.

It is not just gun laws, it is trying to put up money to fight Trump, sanctuary cities, moonbeam, idiot trains, billions on junk bridges behind schedule. The geography is great, the politics are crap.

The surf and ski on the same day thing is a fantasy with the traffic and all. And if you do pull it off you will get in some good surfing perhaps but crappy snow

There's been many a day I've had pizza and wings or spaghetti and meatballs in the same day. Does that count?

    Ok, I'll play, you troll.

I did wind surfing in my 20s. Believe me, what CA has to offer for that kind of surfing is a complete joke.

But the difference is actually between most people in CA making day trips to the beach and people in FL actually living ON the beach.

Try to find a nice spot somewhere between Santa Monica and Malibu on the water for below $5 Mil. Good luck. In FL, $400k gets you in and $1M comes with the same house you'd have in CA for 5.

As the OP stated.. he doesn't get to the ocean much, which by the way is 90% of the time too cold, let alone anywhere near FL temps.

I know plenty of people living in CA. They are all busy working their ass off to pay for that nasty CA state income tax and many things being twice as expensive. And when they want to go somewhere on the weekend, traffic everywhere. Not much time left for the beach or skiing.

The truth is, we don't have mountains and snow, but in most everything else Florida looks much better. Why else are people leaving CA while FL population is growing? Why else are people with serious money investing in everything they can get a hold on between West Palm Beach and Miami?

How many people are leaving CA for TX?

Number of Californians Moving to Texas Hits Highest Level in Nearly a Decade

California transplants take $1.77 billion in adjusted gross income with them

    http://freebeacon.com/issues/number-californians-moving-texas-hits-highest-level-nearly-decade/

People with degrees and money are leaving CA while other fill the gaps. Guess whos coming in...

That was a joke based on our past discussions around cars. Never. Mind.

What I was saying regarding surfing, CA isn't the hot sport for serious surfing either. That would be Hawaii for the US. There are spots in FL on the Atlantic ocean that offer 80% of what CA has to offer.

I lived in Hawaii for 6 years and surfed waves bigger than my house, hated windsurfers the entire time!

I just recently spent a couple of months staying and working in San Diego. There is a lot to love about SoCal. The landscape and the weather are obviously at the top of the list. Its the extreme looney liberalism of the politics that makes me think twice about living there. Between the taxes, insane gun laws, the wacky lack of shopping bags that was imposed in November, etc, it gets to be a bit much.

I also visit FL pretty much yearly, if not multiple times per year. FL beaches are better. The water is much warmer. I couldn't bring myself to even get in the ocean in CA, although the views of the hills and cliffs dropping into the Pacific in some places can't be beat.
