    Whoaaaa. Slow down here.....

As most are no doubt aware, many important political votes are coming down to razor thin margins.

As the system stands now..... California (like every other state), get two senators, and I am not certain of the number of congressional reps..

This new "state" would give California two additional senators and additional congressmen.

This would possibly cause a major upset in the balance of power.

After all, how certain could anyone be that the citizens of this "New California" would not simply install equally flaky members into the political structure.

Consider... California would now get four Senate votes.....states like (say) Texas and all the rest only two.

The less liberal part is trying to separate from the rest. The additional Senators would most likely be less liberal, and offset Harris and Feinstein.

    Not scientific.... but real.

Arizona was formerly a very staunch and reliable conservative state.

No we are experiencing a mass influx of people fleeing (mostly) California.

The people who could not stand the taxes.... The people who could not stand the liberal politics...

Those that had to flee at any cost....

WELLLLLL, they get here and have brought their politics with them.

The formerly reliable "RED" state of Arizona is now.... At best purple.

    Just sayin'.

If this flys, which I doubt, then those fart smellers in Sacramento will insist on separating into; losangelesstan, sanfranciscostan, sandiegostan.

I'd be fine if the entire state of CA declared independence from the US.

Most of the counties in California are rural and agricultural. They as a group are very conservative and all the crazies in Sacramento, San Fran, LA do not represent their interests.

I totally understand this desire. The same problem exists in Oregon and Washington. Cities like Portland and Seattle completely eclipse the interests of the more conservative and rural counties.

Well, it's been proposed more than 200 times, going back to virtually right after the state was first formed.

Hasn't happened yet, and except for the last couple of attempts, most of those were in simpler times when it would've had less political impact and probably have been easier to get done.

I believe the last time a state successfully split off from another was West Virginia and Virginia, in the early 1860's.

    Not holding breath ...

FWIW, if that map is supposed to represent separating the liberal from the conservative areas of CA, there's more counties than just the ones shown in their map that would need to remain part of the original blue CA.

It will l get as far as the UP and part of Wisconsin did in the mid 70s when they tried to form the state Superior.

Do the people who even thought of this live in the state? There is no way San Diego can be part of the new state. The blue parts of the Bay Area go way beyond the areas they show.

And there already is a State of Jefferson movement that makes more sense.

A State of Jefferson would be a good counterbalance to bringing in Puerto Rico as a state.

Exactly what has happened to NM...mostly ex-Kalis, and some Mid-Westerners fleeing Urban Sprawl, have settled in the once very unique state...first thing [they] do is pay asking price for real-estate, get elected to city councils and co commissions, begin infusing their ideas from their once home-state...result...last election cycle Every Repub in the state was defeated with predictable results....very unfortunate.

It would be nice if Chicago would leave the US. Make it part of Canada.

    So would we!

We would be the 5th largest economy in the world - and growing. I'm opposed to farming in California (water consumption) but we seem to grow a lot of food for the rest of the country and once we get the .mil out of here, we have some pretty terrific beaches. Just right for condos for the uber rich techies. Think of Camp Pendleton with condos! We could get our deserts back for off-roading and such! LAX could move to Edwards AFB with a little high speed transit back over the mountains to LA.

We would do well without the drag of the other 49.

This idea of dividing the state comes up all the time. It nearly made the ballot in 2018 but got shot down by some judge. Kind of like a lot of the more conservative ballot initiatives.

Anything that results in the Central Valley splitting away from the coastal regions works for me!
