So I found out last night that one of our Lt.'s the other night pulled a handgun off a 16 y/o at one of our colleges Halloween ventures. He then gave it to one of our armed security officers that was off duty, and the LT told the security officer to place the weapon in the security officers POV and for the security officer to write a report later when he came on shift.

1. The Lt passed the report off on an armed security officer rather than a PO

2. The officer was OFF-DUTY

3. The Suspect was only identified as a 16 y/o no other identification was verified other than a name that was given unknown if it's real or not.

4. They get the weapon back and the S/O writes the report and puts it in.

5. The weapon gets its serial #'s run the next day and it gets a hit on a neighboring county.

6. Neighboring county calls us because they saw we hit it.

7. We have 0 information to give them and the LT still works for us...

Sounds like you Lt. qualifies as one of these guys.

That said the off duty SO should have had the balls to refuse to take the gun. or write a report on it.

Yah he's not the brightest one at all, fricken retard the problem is I can actually blame the training a bit for that one. We hire people and throw them out there on day one w/o any duty gear and then train em as they go. Something like this was bound to happen but the responsability falls on the LT damn it!

So the Lt. didn't take the juvie into custody? At that point he should have just kept the gun for himself or sold it on ebay. The way I read your post, his actions are basically criminal: conduct unbecoming a public official. He'll make a good chief someday.

As of yesterday as far as I can tell nothings changed, the guys in charge of hiring still and continues about his daily business.

what does that say about your department if thats what they have passing for a Lt.?
Don't get me started, I'm in a tizzy about something that happened today too. Two of my shifts officers got wasted last night (they mentioned their plan for some choir practice during shift yesterday) called in sick today because of that and we all know including my sgt and cpl and nothings really going to be done about it. Yet I get smacked for the little things like calling dispatch on another number since he's not answering the correct one...

Sigh I should try to just duck and cover and hide in a hidey hole till I can get out of here, bringing it all up just makes me more frustrated. I'd leave today if I could but I'm stuck while my wife finishes school so I just need to do my best to hide and ride it out.
