I live in IL for college and but I am a resident of Idaho. So I have an Idaho drivers license and no FOID card. So I knew I couldnt buy a gun in IL with out a FOID so I figured I would jump over to MO and buy one (FYI a mossberg 500); but I called today before I went over there and they said they wont sell me one either because of a national law that only allows gun sales to states touching that states borders.....He said I can only purchase a gun if I go back to Idaho and then bring it back....I guess I might have to go get an IL drivers license and apply for a FOID....UGH I hate IL.

Make sure you read up on having firearms in Illinois for an extended period of time. I am wanting to say there is a limit to the amount of time you can have your firearm in the state without having a FOID card.

IL & WI are two of the states with worse gun laws than CA.

I wish you luck on this. :(

Yep, you can buy a long gun in most any state, just no handguns.

Run Away As Fast As You Can. There are other states with better schools and better weapons laws. Getting caught in Illibamaland would not be pretty.

Dude if you have guns there now they may not be legal. I don't pay attention to silly states laws that I'll never go to... but something about that Bears player that had rifles and no registration he had to go jail for it.

"The FOID card was created in 1968, by the FOID Act, as a way to identify those persons eligible to possess and acquire firearms and firearm ammunition as part of a public safety initiative in the State of Illinois."

Unless you have a free scholarship LEAVE! What seems like common sense in Idaho is a felony where you are at.

Never forget that you're choosing more than a college, you're choosing a city, county, and state. A few of my buddies are getting a little flustered with me for ignoring emails and invitations from some fairly prestigious schools...but I know where I want to live, and that's why I'm applying to the grad schools I'm applying to.

Situations like you describe are precisely why.

After living in Kentucky for most of my life, there aren't many states I'd consider moving to. Illinois is certainly not one of them.

You most certainly can purchase a long gun in Illinois without a FOID, as long as you are not a state resident. You should also be able to purchase a long gun in MO without a problem.
