A 20-year veteran Houston cop who wears badge number 666 told the Houston Chronicle in a December profile that once, 17 years ago, a dangerous perp who had been defiant that he would not be captured suddenly dropped to his knees and surrendered. He had glanced at the badge. Said he,

    “I ain’t fighting the devil.”

    Ignorance working for good.

    Actual scripture reference.

Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. Revelation 13.18

Iron Maiden fans know you were supposed to do that in a Vincent Price voice.

Batman or Churchill. Is it true that S&W avoided naming one of their guns "666" for the same reason?

I always wondered why the 15 story building that I used to work in had no 13th floor. Superstition can rule some people's lives.

Ancient Christians weren't real good with repeating rational numbers, so the mark of the beast, 2/3 of 1000, was written as 666. In reality, it's 666.66666666..., so they should have rounded it up to 667.

Ever notice the badge number of Joe Friday on Dragnet? It was 714. The same number imprinted on the no longer made quaaludes.

It just keeps getting better, don't it?
Wouldn't the next door neighbor actually be 664 or 668 and the one across the street is 667 or 665? Just sayin...:whistling:

In any event, talk about superstitious... I was sworn in to my second department Friday the 13th, sometime in 1999 (forgot, I think it's August) and given badge #13. The department folded and is no longer in existence. I claim no credit in that.
