    gooooood morning USA!

I've got a glock form the beginning of this year, and I've studied all the components of the frame and the slide and it's ok.

BUT... I have not understood the function of the Glock Extractor Depressor Plunger Spring!

    CAN YOU HELP ME ?

    :dunno:

It puhes the extractor in so it will hold the cartridge rim and allow it to extract.

    Pretty close.

As the slide moves forward the cartridge is pushed forward out of the magazine. As it comes out of the mag it hits the feed ramp and starts moving upward. As the cartridge moves forward and upward the rim of it will contact the extractor and get pushed up into it. If the extractor does not have some flexibility to move the slide will stop moving forward and cause a failure to feed.

Likewise on extraction, the tension provided by the spring plunger holds the case in place against the slide until the case hits the ejector, which flips the case out of the slide.

Actually all extractors have a spring.......sort of.

Check extractors on 1911's - instead of a spring, the extractor itself is a springy metal that's designed to flex.

And the amount of flex is how you tune them. If it didn't have a spring or wasn't a spring (in effect) it would be like hitting a hammer on soft brass. It wouldn't hold anything when you wanted it to and it wouldn't let go when you did want it to.
