While there are few bad choices in 45acp, the 165grHS is a bad choice. THe bullet is too light, vel is too low, just a poor choice all around. The Hornady CD isn't much better, but better. I also carry a compact 1911 & shy away from the +P loads, too much recoil for little gain in effectiveness. Good short bbl loads IMO; the Hornady 185gr or 200gr std. vel XTP, the Rem 185gRGS non +P & the 185gr WSTHP. Slowing the 185gr WSTHP down a bit actually imporves it's penetration as they over expand @ 5" bbl vel. The 185grGDHP would be another good choice IMO. THe 185gr/45 has an SD of 0.130, close to the 155gr/40 or 115gr/9mm, so not an unuseful bullet wt if the design is sound. The 185grXTP is a very good cup/core bullet.
