For anyone planning to attend the Columbia, SC GSSF match this weekend.

I would keep a close eye on Hurricane Irene as the weekend approaches. :wow:

Although the actual versus projected track this far out can be off as much as a couple of hundred miles, the center of the projection as of this writing puts it hitting the North Carolina coast Friday/Saturday night.

A potential disaster zone is no place to be trying to draw a bunch of GSSF competitors! :faint:

If GSSF decides to pull the plug on the match, it may be a last minute decisiion and announcement thereof. :crying:

I would keep a close watch here, on the GSSF website (gssfonline.com) and of course, on the hurricane itself over the next few days before you decide to saddle up and head for South Carolina!

I would be leaving at around 6 or 6:30 am to be in Columbia by 9am or so, would it be posted on the GSSF site by then if it was cancelled? Once I am driving, I guess I could keep checking the site via my Iphone, cause I would hate to drive 3 hours for nothing!

early yesterday morning when the center track was headed dead into Charleston, SC. Keep in mind, the worst wind and tornado threats from hurricane are on the northeast side. If it goes where they are projecting, the worst of the storm will be in the ocean. Hopefully, all Columbia will see is rain....

Yes, they "bag" the cardboard targets.

At most matches, shooters stand under a canopy. If it is raining, plastic wrap is pulled down over the cardboard D-1 targets. You have to know where the A & B rings are. Pasting targets helps. Steel is steel. If the wind is strong, the three steel poppers may be locked in a stationary position.

I've shot in rain, mud, snow and extreme heat. You just make the best of it.

GSSF may have to make decisions on the fly, here, depending on how the track develops.

Getting the WORD out may be problematical.

Cindy is GSSF's Website guru. She is on a plane Thursday, for the GSSF match in California this weekend.

So, she will not be available to put any such announcement on the GSSF website after she leaves the office for the day Wednesday.

It would be up to Glock's IT people to put it up after that. That may be problematical for them since they don't work with that website much.

They may cancel the whole match before they even leave Smyrna. Which could be 8AM, Friday. :steamed:

They may drive to Columbia (Friday), getting there at 11AM or so and decide to cancel the whole match after they get there and see what conditions look like locally at that point. :crying:

They may drive to Columbia (Friday) and decide to set up the stages, without putting up the overhead covers until they see what the winds/rain are going to do on Saturday.

If the winds/rain look like they are going to be too strong on Saturday, they may cancel all Saturday shooting and just shoot a truncated match Sunday.

Or the hurricane might take a way, way easterly track and the weekend will be normal.

Anything is possible at this point.

Only Irene knows what is going to happen here. :dunno:

    Stay tuned.

Present forecast eye path looks favorable for a storm free match.

A Stock G34 is only legal in Competition and Unlimited category. If you add a Lonewolf slide or Barrel then it is only legal in Unlimited category. Just wanted to be sure you knew that before you wasted a lot of money.

I doubt that the armorer would work on a non-stock upper.

It looks like the hurricane is going to be past us before Saturday. They do tend to pick up forward speed once they hit the Gulf Stream.
