hunting in ny with handgun question...

    is anyone here from ny & if so do you know what the minimum caliber handgun cartrige is allowed to hunt whitetail deer. i'd really like to get a glock 20 & hunt with 10mm, but am not sure if its legal to do so, any help apreciated.

    Just has to be centerfire, max barrel length of 16 inches.
    If autoloading with more than 6 rounds, barrel length has to be less than 8 inches.

    Lots of people hunt with 10mm. I don't have that round, but know it comes in hunting loads.

    Your biggest problems with pistols are the typically limited accuracy of the shooter, trying to get close enough to a deer, and the noise of the blast.

    I prefer to think of pistol hunting like bow hunting, where I want the deer within 30 yards, and work hard to make that happen. You might want to think about ear plugs, too.
