    HP a520n...

Any ideas what component might be the problem??
    It's only 2-3 years old...

I could be typing a post, and boom--- reboot...

    ??

fans clogged with dust and overheating. most common. fix: blow it out with canned air.

next, loose card. (usually video) .. a bump and it reboots..

fix, re-seat and screw down the video card. (occasionally another card will do it) ..

next: weak/dying power supply. . (also maybe dusty, blow it out)..

solution, replace Power Supply. not difficult, if you get one that fits and is big enough. go up one size.

    rare but possible.. loose RAM.

those are the hardware issues most common. bad USB mouse is another maybe but unlikely.. there can be a conflict with USB webcam..

OR it can be a virus/trojan.. do full security scan.

Clicking is either a fan, in which case the computer is overheateding, Power supply, or failing hard drive. Pull off the side panel and try and listen to where the clicking is coming from. If it is the hard drive, immediatly shut down the computer to have the best chance of recovering your data.

    Magnificent guys, thanks!

    I'll get on it...

I shouldn't really have included 'clicks'...
    It simply reboots outta nowhere...

Right click on my computer > properties > advanced > startup and recovery > check don't automatically restart on system failure. If the computer still just shuts down then it is probably your power supply. If it does give you a blue screen, then it might be a software problem but could still be a hardware problem. The blue screen will give us more information.
