Great Video. Explains how FBI agents managed to walk through the scanners while armed on several documented occasions.

The TSA is a farse. Allow airlines to set rules for security and travelers to choose what level of invasiveness they feel comfortable with.

There isn't a single person who works at an airport who doesn't know how to get past TSA.

It took 2 hours for this same thread to get closed this morning, any bets on how long this lasts?

I'm just curious as to why it was locked.

The first rule of locked threads is a lot like the first rule of fight club.

I love this forum and respect the tough job the Mods have to do.

It would really help everyone if mods would, before locking a thread, post at least a reason for the lock, even if it is just a one line copied-pasted text. I think it would help people from inadvertently violating rules if they better understood them.

    ^ Agreed.

Back on topic, the presenter states that he would like the TSA to be abolished and have airports privatize security. I somewhat agree but what would be the effects? I assume airline ticket prices would go up.

At TIA (Tampa), there are metal detector portals and there are full body scanners. You have the option of choosing one or the other (unless you are randomly selected to go through the scanner). It befuddles me why they don't make you go through both, seems rather "half-assed" to me. But after this video, that policy may quickly change,

It is my understanding that the fees that support the TSA are integrated into the tickets already.

I don't like the term privatize personally. Usually when something is privatized, a broken government agency is turned into a broken "private" monopoly run by the cronies of politicians in power. With no competition allowed, it is no better than the "public" system.

I'd rather security be marketized. That is: decisions about the appropriate levels of security should be between airlines, passengers and insurance companies. You know... the folks who have a real stake in security.

If some airline, it's passengers and insurance underwriter feel better having TSA-style groping then so be it. Another airline/passengers/underwriter may opt to allow passengers to travel with their CCW and protect themselves.

Liberty works for every other aspect of American life, why should getting on an airplane be any different?

    --
All that being said, I've always found it amusing that. When I opt out of the naked body scanners, they insist on patting me down after I pass the metal detector. However, if I take my two year old son in my arms, they allow me to "opt out" and go through the metal detector sans pat down. That is of course after they make my two year old take his shoes off.

    I opt out EVERY time.

Last week coming home from a trip, the TSA guy admitted to me that the pat downs are the worst part of his job. I thought it was funny that he hated it as much as I do.
