How should I store a few pistols and ammo?

I've been reading that the case they came in from Glock isn't good because the foam can hold moisture. I don't want to have a big gun safe for two to four pistols. They will be shot at least once every 4-6 weeks max. What do you guys suggest?

Along those lines, I'm trying to build up a reserve of ammo. The house is air conditioned and heated year round so there is very little variation of temperature or humidity. Is locked ammo boxes or a locked file cabinet good enough?

I know Glock owners that have stored them in a climate controlled area in the OEM boxes for many years with zero issues.

Locked ammo boxes. Apply grease to the rubber seal and throw in some dessicant packets, or just rice and you'll be good for decades before having to renew

When I read about problems with storage in the factory box, I'm thinking they are talking about guns that sit there for a year or years without being touched. These may not be used daily but they will be exercised regularly. Is the factory Glock box OK?
Why ammo boxes instead of a climate controlled room with low humidity and no temperature fluctuation (as opposed to a garage or shed)?

Any info I can get will help me to learn and understand so thanks in advance.

If the democrats get in the white house dig a hole deep in the back yard and cover in oil heavily and seal in bags in tupperware storage boxes. Lots of ammo too. Same with cash too.

You are putting way to much thought into this...in the Glock oem box is fine and storing your ammo inside your home is also fine however you want, no need for ammo cans, boxes stacked up on a cabinet in your home is perfectly fine

I saw one that was stored in the OEM box (the newer type with foam) for a couple of years. It was rusted shut.

I took the pistol apart. We replaced all internals, barrel, and had to sand smooth the spots on the slide. first and only time I had ever seen it myself. It was stored in that case in his 5th wheel trailer the entire time. This is the PNW so lots of moisture

No argument from me on that. I told him it was his fault. The box retains moisture and he should have not put it in that position.

I found some old pics of it. I'll try and get them uploaded

If you have to do all of that you should have used the gun a long time ago.

If they need to be hidden it is way past the time to use them.

I live in south west Ohio and use this one.....

    https://www.stack-on.com/product/pistol-ammo-cabinet/

its attached to the wall in the closet in the corner so as the lock is to the wall, should help to prevent someone form using a pry bar to just pop it open, positioned on the wall so cloth hanging on the closet rod hide it from view

handguns are either stored in the OEM boxes or out of the box on the top shelf with a large dessicant packet in the safe.

reloaded ammo is stored in plastic coffee cans with small dessicant packets in side, coffee cans are in a plastic tub on the floor of the closet.

I've done this for years with no issues.

Did someone say "why ammo cans and not the pistol case?"

Ammo cans seal air and water tight.

Then it had nothing to do with the box.
