I know that comfort shouldn't be the primary concern when choosing a handgun for concealed carry but it is A concern.

I started out with a fullsized steel CZ75B. 22 years later I've downsized to my plastic fantastic Glunk 19. There were a couple of other steps along the way but ultimately I quit carrying the CZ because it was like walking around with a brick on my hip.

When I transitioned from my 4006 to my 6906 the weight difference between the two was the primary factor that drove my decision.

I understand the concept that the gun is supposed to be comforting not comfortable but the fact is if the pistol is UNcomfortable enough I'm not going to carry it.

How many of you actually carry a PiTA gun because you feel you're better armed with it

My carry guns have been discreet and comfortable for 35 years.

You carried a CZ75 during 22 years.... then you can handle anything you choose to conceal or open carry. Small or large won't be a big deal for you.

But "discreet" to me means a 1911 or a CZ or an N-frame 8-shot or a more diminutive S&W Shield or J-frame or Ruger LC9.

Weight to me means nothing .......

Then you're not actually carrying a gun for 8 to 12 hours a day sometimes 16 in real life.

By real life I mean getting in and out of the car. Walking up and down stairs. Going through doorways. Slipping on the ice and falling. Having to stand there for 3 or 4 hours.

You do all that for that length of time you will notice the weight of that gun

I don't think I've ever carried concealed an uncomfortable gun. Some carry locations may be uncomfortable and some gun features may be less discreet, but concealed handgun carry has never been outright uncomfortable for me. Nowadays I carry a G22, G27, G30sf, or Ruger SP-101 plus a .357 Magnum snubbie or .38 Special snubbie backup.

Up until my fifties I packed a 44 mag snub S&W no issues. Then it got heavy and I got a G29. It was the cats pajamas. exchanged at times with a G17 or G21

Then I changed careers and went to a NAA 22 mag 2" then a P32 Keltec for five years or until retirement and then quit packing any thing for probably five years.

Then happened onto the P3AT, G42, PMR 22 mag.

That's where I am now with the P3AT 99% of the time and am now 75 years with a bad heart.

Yesterday for the halibut I packed my 3AT and P32 on the same side, one in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster, one IWB with no issues Both with 10 shot mags. Back to the cats pajamas. Concealed even at Wally World.

Comfort is everything to me as I put em on in the morning a take em off at bedtime.

I get your point and agree - it needs to be comfortable enough that you are willing to wear it every day, even if it is not comfortable enough to not notice at all.

During my 5 year stint in narcotics I quickly switched from a 1911 to a Glock 23. Sitting in a car doing surveillance for hours on end will make you appreciate comfort. And for some reason driving and just sitting are different.

Comfortable carry is comforting for many.
Carrying around a cannon is not always easy and concealability comes into play, also. More powerful weapons are necessarily larger and heavier than less powerful alternatives but what many have concluded is that, for them, there is a "good enough" zone that balances ease of carry with what they consider sufficient self defense capability.

Why can't it be 'comfortably comforting' or 'comfortable comfort'?

I notice the weight when I do an all day carry with my CZ Shadow. But it's still comfortable when on the right belt. I do understand that possibly in many years, I might have to readdress this issue due to age-related problems.

There were a lot of factors that went into my choice of the Glock 19 but the final determining factor was that the 19 was the smallest and easiest gun to carry that I could find that had a capacity that I was comfortable with.

My gun is on me from the time I get out of bed until I get back in bed. I wouldn't carry a 5906 like that. I didn't carry my 4006 like that. I don't even carry my M&P like that because after a while you figure out they're a pain in the ass literally. Why do you think all these cops are walking around with Sciatica?

comfort is a big deal, and maybe a bigger deal than the caliber or capacity (if you're defending against brown bears, then caliber obviously matters more). Basically choose the caliber and capacity you are willing to carry every day and all the time. The bottom line is that if you don't carry, then it doesnt matter how many ft lb of energy the cartridge has because it's in the safe or in the glove box. And i choose Glock because of the amazingly small package compared to other brands of equal caliber and capacity. for me, in the summer i carry a subcompact and in the winter i can carry a compact...both very comfortably.

"comfort" meaning what I like to wear, determines almost 100% my carry choice.

Being retired, all the time I wear short sleeve Dickies coveralls.
This limits me to a smallish gun, pocket carried.
I've settled on the laser equipped SIG P938 (9mm).
A well made, reliable, accurate, but a little expensive pistol.

Part of my comfort comes from my choice of caliber .45acp.
Then ergos and weight to an extent but with that said I carry my G30 way more than my shield and I like them both just fine.
And I like my 1911 most of all but probably for different reasons.

I switched my big CC gun from a 4566 to a G23, I gained 5 rounds and lost 3/4lb. But for me to be armed all the time I use an LCP also.

Comfortable is a major part of concealable; absence of cover garments leaves pocket carry, which means small, thin, and lightweight to prevent detection.

Shorts, sandals, and a single shirt for beachwear; concealability demands compromises. :suntan:It's 73 degrees here today, so YMMV.:fishing:

I've tried a lot of carry guns over the years. As I got older, I got more and more tired of lugging around a big, heavy gun. And a "big, heavy gun" got smaller, and lighter.

I'm down to an LCP these days. Seems about right. Wish I'd gotten one years ago.

The reason I went from the G26 to the S&W M&P9c was primarily comfort. The M&P fits my hand better and is more comfortable to me for IWB. They both are excellent shooters. I carried a 1911a1 for years IWB, but now like the weight and comfort of a compact 9mm for CCW.
