How much more substantial is the 9mm vs the .380acp for self defense?

I love both pistols probably equally. My splits are faster with the 19 and reloads are faster with the 19 but accuracy wise they are virtually identical.

Fast reloads are not the g26 best quality. It is very fractionally slower for me in drills. I also have both as well as a g32. I love the 32, but the g19 is a joy to shoot in comparison when working fast & accurate. I think my p239 in 357sig is a slightly better shooter than the g32, but 8+1

In my opinion, all things considered; the G26 is possibly the greatest and most useful personal protection handgun ever devised. It just does so many things so well that it must be considered. I think if I could only own one Glock i would choose my G26.

Well now I’m rethinking. My 19 just gave me a dirty look. I guess since this thread is about caliber, I’ll say that I’m very happy with modern 9mm ammo and leave it at that.

Not sure what "that small" is, but with the P365 and the new SA Hellcat, 9mm is getting small enough to pocket carry. And you don't need to settle for 6 or 7 round capacity...

P365 or G43 are pretty small.

I'm not pocket carrying much of anything if I can help it. There isnt a 9mm as small as the LCP or even the Glock 42.

The KelTec PF9 is just about the same size and weight as the G42.

That is fine there is no way I'd carry a PF9 again. I owned 1 about 10 years ago and am not interested.

Here's some pics I took recently of my new P365 and my old LCP...

    20191013_135639.jpg 20191013_135754.jpg 20191013_135819.jpg

Pretty close in size, but of course, the lcp still wins in the size department. Also weighs (both fully loaded) 10.2 oz less, which is a lot of weight.

That said, the p365 pocket carries like a damn champ! Even in my jeans. However, when it comes to sweat pants/gym shorts, nothing comes close to the lcp. It just disappears and doesn't weigh the pocket down.

Here's another pic that's a bit more fair. The pics above have an extended 7 round mag in the lcp and the 10 round flush fit in the 365. The pic below shows the lcp with the 6 round flush fit...

Same here. I have three Glocks but the first-and-foremost is the G26. With different magazines it can be a G19 or G17. Excellent little package.

The P365 has indeed earned the title of 'game changer'. Really the only thing the LCP has over it (and I have an LCP in my pocket right now) is the weight. Other than that it is hard to justify for a variety of reasons i.e. shootability, 9mm being better than .380 in terms of cost and variety of ammo, options).

I agree, and I too have my lcp in my pocket as I type this.

What you gain for that 10 oz difference is worth it for me. Now, with that said, while here at the house and around my land, the lcp will be in my pocket and I'll feel just fine with it there... but, when it's time to go to town, the P365 will take it's place (in most cases).

I absolutely agree with this. 10oz is a substantial difference when it comes to something like pocket carry. Particularly in some types of clothing.

Much of the weight is ammo. You could always download the 365 & save 4-5oz?
I think the p365 is a game changer for ccw. It is very shootable, very concealable, no need to settle for a lesser rd like the 380. Then again, just cant wrap myself around pants pocket carry.

Nope. With the 365 downloaded to 8 rounds (same as my lcp) the difference is about 9 oz (both 8 rounds and in same brand pocket holsters). Still a pretty big difference in weight, but again, I agree that the weight difference is worth it for what's gained with the 365.

And you don't have to. I know how you feel about pocket carry, because you always mention it in pocket carry threads. I've been carrying this way for years and it's what works for me.

There are times when pocket carry just makes sense, or is the only practical way. I've mentioned before that if I'm dressed up (wedding for example) in dress slacks and a tucked in dress shirt, pocket carry is the most practical way (for me). Ankle carry is a possibility but pocket just seems to be more practical and definitely quicker. A light, small pistol like the LCP just fills the bill.

Sure, I could pocket my P365 but dress slacks have pockets that just aren't as tight/sturdy normally so it's not as comfortable as a pistol that is 1/2 lbs + lighter. And it still maintains the 'have a gun' policy.

I've tried fanny packs and other small bags and they work, but then it's off-body carry which I try to avoid.

I see the P365 is product improved G26 in the sense that you get the same capacity in an even smaller package all around, especially in grip circumference. I hope Glock comes out with their own response to the Sig and Hellcat (G26SF MOS? I'd buy that...)

I held one and didn't fall in love with it. Something about the G27/26 form factor just works for me. And I just trust Glock's.
