How many rounds of say 9mm or 45 or 40 do you consider a good stash to have put away and be real.
I have only had my gun for about a month, but I like to keep about 1k. Not to hoard but because when I go to the range I usually shoot around 100-150 rounds. So if I buy in bulk when its on sale or get free shipping I can keep a good amount on hand. Saves me money in the long run, just because if I run out and am forced to buy a box of 50 for 20 bux at the range.
There is no real answer. Its whatever you feel comfortable with.
I have thousands of rounds for each caliber, 20k + in total. My best friend is happy with a 50 round box for each caliber.
At least 10k for each rifle caliber, and at least 5k for each handgun caliber.
Oh, yes there is...
If your wife gets irked everytime you come through the front door with ammunition (even a single box) and demands that her clothes remain in the guestroom closet after you moved them out from the closet in your bedroom: You are there!
I just came accross a big bunch of ammo from a guy who had a gun store long ago. I got all the 45 and 9MM he had . Now I have the biggest stash of anyone.
PMC 45,. 230 gr. 22 boxes
Federal 45., 230 gr, 31 boxes
Winchester 45., 230 gr. 16 boxes
Federal 9MM. 115 gr. 33 boxes
Winchester 9MM. 115 gr. 46 boxes
Winchester 9mm. 124 ga. 35 boxes
Pluss I already had 6 bxes of 9MM and 5 of 45
That over 10,00 rounds ... Nice stash you bet
How much money is enough? How big a yacht do you need to water ski behind?
I keep it simple... 500 rounds of FMJ for each centerfire caliber (9mm, 10mm, .45ACP & .357) and 200 rds of JHP each as well. The AR get 1000 rds of .223. The 12 gauge gets 250 OO Buck, 250 slugs and 500 birdshot, the .22 rifle gets 1000 hyper velocity and brick of cheaper stuff - those two are for hunting, not fighting. Those all get shot up every other year and replenished. My regular shooting is whatever is cheapest at the local gun shop that week. My thinking is that I have enough to last me if ammo becomes "outlawed" as by extension, it wouldn't be illegal to go shooting anyway. If SHTF, I doubt very much I'll ever be involved in any 500 rd handgun battles. The extra .223 ammo above 500 is for barter. Mostly I'm interested in equipping myself to feed my family if bad things happen and we need to eat.
Great score. Not the biggest stash of anyone, but a nice stockpile.
10K is a milestone fro' sur!
Realistically you should have at least a years worth of ammo, and ideally 2 years worth. Is that 500rds, 1000, 10,000, or 20,000 rds. Only you can answer that.
I have a few thousand in HST socked away for my 9, .40 and 45ACP. I'd get more if I could find it. I'm really not into hoarding FMJ.
I really need more 7.62X39mm . . .
I'm with Matt. the amount to stock depends on the rate of usage. try to get 1-3 years loaded up. some folks arent comfortable with less than a lifetime, its very personal.
I usually fill one ammo-box with premium JHP's and the rest is range/rainy-day/play ammo. Currently for me, that means 800 rounds of 357SIG in the TX DPS loading rat-holed away for the end of the world. When I graduate and am making enough money to buy that much ammo every week without blinking, I am sure my priorities will change, but currently, 800 rounds of premium JHP's are more than sufficient.
As long as you can stay put, I guess whatever amount that doesn't crash through your floor. If you have to vacate your stash, how many boxes can you lug along with you?
I have between 8000-9000 rounds
i usually like to have a couple K sitting around. I just hate buying it, so the less I have to, the less painful it seems
20k? holy hell we know whos on the Watch list haha i have 600-1000 but after seeing this im gonna become a hoarder like on A&E
MidwayUSA had some as of two weeks ago. Wolf black box and Military Classic.
I have 3 Glocks in a single caliber and have a few thousand rounds and new reloading components for a few more 1000. Bought them in the summer and fall of 2008 before the prices spiked and shortages started.
Have a couple of 1000 in the other caliber. The component bullets are the same caliber as the other 3 Glocks .
Have quite a few 7.62X39 for my rifle and a few hundred rounds of 12ga Ammo for the Mossberg.
