I shoot 9mm and .40. I want to store some. How much do you guys think is enough to have on hand at all times? Not counting the shooting I do regularly.

I would like some numbers please. My friends have about 2K each, but I don't think that is enough.

    I honestly do not know.

It really just depends on your use, how much you shoot.
I shoot about 5 days a week, so I consider 2,000 rounds, per caliber, as being out of ammo.

I have NEVER been sorry I bought too much ammo. Many times I have been sorry I didn't buy enough.

I keep about 1~2K in each calibers that I own. You are right, they are not enough but I shoot more often than I can find ammo so I'll just have to deal with it.

    Not Telling... OPSEC...

    I do recommend minimum of:

    50 magazine loads per pistol
    100 magazine loads per rifle

~300 rounds of .40. I only had one .40 pistol and was in the process of stocking up when I decided I needed another .40 pistol. Then I had to shoot my new .40 pistol. Now I'm stocking up again. Looking to get to ~500 rounds FMJ and ~300 rounds JHP. I'm halfway there on the JHP. Eventually 500 JHP and 1500 FMJ would be nice.

Not nearly enough. I can't help my self and end up shooting most of what I buy in handgun calibers. The only thing I am not touching is my box of 1000 .223 rounds I am saving for when the zombies come. :animlol:

I consider 1000 rnds per caliber including rifles a bare minimum. I prefer much more than that but that also means fewer calibers.

I keep 700 rounds of 45 and 300 rounds of 40 in stock at all times for SHTF situations. This is the good stuff: Golden Sabre and Winchester PDX1. I typically fire this at the range or buy a 50 round box of the cheap range stuff when I am there. I dont store any cheap stuff. I like firing the good stuff so I know how it performs in my guns. I dont shoot more than 200 rounds a month anyway.

It's awful, but all my ammo was lost in the same boating accident that resulted in the loss of all my guns.

I sold all mine face to face and I have a terrible memory for faces.

When you reach old fart age, having enough ammo is having a amount that you can't shoot before you die.:)

I have around 9,000 rounds (8 calibers) all told, and I think it is enough. I mean I would take more but do not feel I am running short of anything really.
