As many as possible...... When I point my flashlight at someone I want their face to melt off like they just opened the arc of the covenant in Indiana Jones!

80+ is blinding to another person. Do you 'need' more than that? Does not make much of a difference in my experience.

The bright lights are great however they suck for up close work...they wash everything out. I finally went with an LED with multiple modes...I think it is 150 on the brightest setting.

yup the strion is perfect because it has multiple levels and you can blind the crap out of someone with the strobe.

Don't forget... There are two different measures, I forget the exact names, but basically one is at the emitter (higher) and one at the lens (what you actually see). Many manufacturers use the emitter lumen measurement to give a false bump in their numbers.

Personally, my light is 240 lumens at the emitter and I'd guess around 180 at the lens. It's brighter than my stinger. It also has setting for 60 and 5 lumens.

My rifle light is gonna be 500 lumens.... heheheheheheh

I am quite happy with the claimed 235 lumens of the Fenix PD30+.

Not sure how much the actual OTF lumen intensity is but the light works well. The addition of the pocket clip has made this light perfect for what I use it for.

When you can light up the dark side of the Moon from Earth, you have a decent light.

I've got an 80 lumen inca and it is fine for inside the house.
I've got a 120 lumen LED that is much better as it is brighter and the light is much whiter in color.
As Dragoon says, 150 or better is outstanding and if you get it in a multi level LED you'll have a light for all situations.

Botach Tactical had the Polytac on sale for $33 each. It's an LED and runs on two CR123A batteries. For the money I think it's a great light and affordable affordable enough to buy several for the cars, house, briefcase, etc.

In addition to the usual suspects such as Streamlight and Surefire, I'd take a good look at 4Sevens and Fenix too.
