How many derive their income from the Government including direct employment on a Federal, State or Local level, as a contractor or by working for a Government contractor.

Also included is Social Security, disability, veteran's benefits and public pensions. You get the idea; taxpayer supported income.

Just trying to see where we are percentage wise.

I worked for a government contractor, and now retired and get Soc. Sec, but I don't rely on that for my income.

The farm operation receives direct payments for ground enrolled in the CPR program. It does not amount to a whole lot. Very rarely any other form of payment except in disaster years when multi-peril insurance kicks in and maybe something out of the farm program.
The payments, if any, wont make you rich but it might be enough to keep you farming for one more year.

I know people will argue with me over this, but I have never considered SS a government income. They force you to give them your money, you should be able to get it back.

I work for a career/technology school (property taxes) under a program that is funded through a federal government grant (NIST) plus a state science/technology agency. When I retire in a few years, my income will be from a teacher retirement pension program, SS, and my savings/investments. I used to get some farm support money but I sold the farm a few years ago.

Last year my full retirement from SSA (taken at age 66) and my pension from the state for 38.5 years (taken at age 62) was 32.27% of my total income.

Investments. I bought my first stock in 1967 while working a summer tree service job. Got lucky and quadrupled my money in less than 2 years. And then I was hooked.

Not looking to judge. Just looking percentage wise and so far the majority derive their income directly from the Government.

But it just pays the current retirees. He paid for 51 years worth of retirees. I'm willing to cut him slack.

Of course I get paid by the city. I am paying towards current retirees in the system.

I won't get social security because I haven't put in enough quarters into social security unless I do something else in retirement that is private sector.
