Had the same surgery in April of '81. Incision was about 4" long.
My appendix (sp??) ruptured as I was driving myself to the hospital.

I was off work for 8 weeks. Doc said no driving for 4 weeks.

It felt like my guts were going to spill out of the incision for almost 2 weeks, then, just a dull pain for another week.

I heard it can take 6-8 weeks. I had mine out last year. Non emergency. I got the Laproscopic and was back at work with in 48 hours. No pain by day 4. Even the initail pain wasnt that bad. They gave me some good drugs but I never took them. One of the Oxy drugs. Not sure which one.

Mine hurt for 3-4weeks. I had a 3 inch cut. I had to take care of my son, he was one at the time and really running around. I think the doc cut into my lower ab muscle. Anyway, I didn't follow any of the instructions so that's probably why it hurt so long.

I was 20 yrs old (1977) and was in the hospital for 10 days. Hurt for several weeks afterwards and I could still feel a twinge at the incission for 2-3 years.

The kicker is that in 96 I found the hospital/doctor bill. Total was about $3500.
I had gall bladder surgery in 96 and I was in the hospital for 23 hours. Total $10,000.

I'm afrad to drive by the hospital now.

The good thing is your body wont react to the stainless steel surgical instrument. Now if they left in a sponge plan another trip to the emergency room.

When you feel that you need to cough or sneeze, place the palm of your right hand over the incision and press in.
Trust me. . . it will lessen the pain of the sneeze!

I broke my sternum, bruised my heart, and broke 3 ribs completely off the sternum many years ago. A cough or sneeze was the most painful experience of the whole ordeal.
(Grab a throw pillow and press it to the sternum and cross your arms over it. That's the only way to endure that!)

You should see how much I would have paid to have a kid, if I didn't have insurance, in 2006

OUCH! That must have been one hell of a belly flop:rofl:

Just kidding, you are ok now right?

It depends, how much was your bill? and how much was your deductible? Seriously, give it 6-8 weeks at least. Check the incision for redness or swelling and take it easy. Also note any illness that may be attributed to infection i.e. temperature etc.

I am not a doctor so take or not take my advice for what it is. Just keep a tab on how your are feeling, but take it slow.

Seriously, go back to the Doc, and complain about the pain! :wow:

Percocet is one of the meds I use for the flare-ups. Like it really does that much on top of Fentanyl.... But I'll be happy to email you a dozen or so.
