My father-in-law brought me some Mrs Grissom's Cheese Spread that he received in a senior citizen commodity box of food.

    http://www.mrsgrissoms.com/classic

The FIRST INGREDIENT on the label is::::
INGREDIENTS: Imitation Pasteurized American Cheese (Water, Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Food Starch-Modified, Casein [A Milk Protein], Whey, Sodium Phosphate, Corn Syrup Solids, Salt, Calcium Phosphate, Lactic Acid Artificial Flavors, Sorbic Acid [A Preservative], Sodium Citrate, Color Added),

How is that even possible? No milk product? It just sounds disgusting. In the trash it went.

    IMITATION Pasteurized Cheese?

    Huh>/////

    You're surprised ?

99% of "cheese" in the grocery store is now "pasturized cheese product". Real cheese costs you a premium but throwing that product in the trash seems like a very over reaction

This is a way of hiding the real inflation rate. Yoga mat bread, hydrogenated oils, soybeans etc. Its a way of hiding how badly the dollar has lost its purchasing power.

But hey, its basically the same thing right? So who cares!

Nothing comes close to great cheese. But it is $$$$$. My favorite grocery store has a dedicated cheese monger in the deli. The difference between the cheese in the deli and the regular stuff in the regular cheese and meat section is like night and day.

That artificial stuff can’t be good for you.

I am with you on that. I won't eat American cheese, Velveeta, Cheese Whiz, or nacho cheese. Not crazy about cream cheese, but like cheese cake and bagel with cream cheese. I made mac and cheese last week after melting gouda, cheddar, and Monterrey jack into a Béchamel sauce.
