When you send a link and have it compressed to a few letters, (a blue HERE) you click HERE and it takes you to another web page.

You mean if CLICK HERE goes somewhere else?

If so just type click here .. then highlight it and click the link button (blue glob with oval under it) and type the address you want it to go to.

Basically the site that it references stores the original URL and when the short URL is loaded it automatically redirects to the original.

Some also allow you to see the destination, such as http://nsfwconfirm.com/

When you compose a response to a thread or a new thread here on GT, click the little globe with a paper clip icon that appears right below the smilie face, in the same row as the "bold" and "italic" font buttons.

A box will then pop up where you paste the URL you want, click "ok" (or hit enter) and then the URL will be entered into the text box along with special tags around it. Some text will be highlighted - this is where you can type whatever word you want the reader to see.

    Does that make sense?

Play with it a little & you should see what I mean.

Uh, ok. So now that others have replied, I'm wondering what SATX man really meant. You say "...send a link..." do you mean in a thread post or reply, email, IM's, or what?

Function inside Word that I use all the time, instead of having the entire link spelled out in the document, you can give it a name and clicking on the blued name will take you to the sight.

In thread posts, it's done like they said above. In email it can vary, but it's typically done by using the HTML email format.
