    Hey folks,
The SKS forum seemed a little slow so I thought I would ask here. I just picked up a totally stock and unaltered Norinco SKS. If I want to add a Tapco 20rd mag what parts do I need to change out to keep it legal? Also, IYO, should I leave it stock (all serial #'s match) or tweak with it?

    ~Thanks, John

Just leave it stock, and have fun with it.

There is lots of info about this on the web. I personally love the fact that my SKS in totally stock all numbers matching(Russian). I did refinish the wood on it though. My SKS was not allways stock. At one time it had a thirty round mag folding stock and a scope on it. I kept all of my original parts and I'm glad I did. I am almost ashamed of the way it used to look. If you choose to modify it just don't do anyhting you can't change. That way you can put it back.
To answer your question about legallity I THINK you can have no more than ten imported parts on the gun to be legal. You should look it up on your own before starting though.

Leave it stock with the 10 round magazine on it. Put the money you would waste on ninja accessories into ammo.

I also suggest keeping it stock. My unaltered Yugo SKS is one of my favorite long guns to shoot. Load up some stripper clips and blast away.

edit: if you really want to pimp it out and be 922r compliant, Tapco sells a compliance kit with 9 compliant parts:

SKSs are pretty much perfect the way they are, especially Norincos. Replacing the magazine will likely result in feeding problems and if you learn to use stripper clips you'll be surprised how fast you can load it. Plus there is no good way to mount optics on an SKS. Put on a 1" recoil pad to make the stock a little longer and call it good.

If you want a mall ninja gun, get a Saiga and convert it. Add a bipod, red dot sight and a 40 round mag and Mall Ninja Away, Dude!

Leave it alone and shoot it how it was meant to be shot. If you want a high capacity magazine in a rifle get a AK47, Mini 14 or Ar15.

My Dad put a 20rd mag on and it wouldn't feed AT ALL. He messed with it for a while to no avail. I did some research and found many people stating NOT to mess with those mags.

Another vote for leaving it stock!

I hate when people **** up a nice rifle by adding a bunch of cheap plastic parts to it.

I put a Tapco stock on my Chicom SKS because the stock I had was splintered and nearly broke in half. Great rifle other than the stock. The Tapco has an adjustable stock and pistol grip that I like.

I have an older Norinco with the pressed barrel. I have had it many years. I have not had one single problem with it. My brother also bought one. He put a removable 20 or 30 round magazine in it and had nothing but problems now.
