The stupidest thing that Harley Davidson did in recent history was to push Erik Buell out the door.
What they should have done was promote him to head up their R&D department.

I thought the same thing too! Huge loss on THEIR part for sure!!!!!!

Harley failed miserably with the VROD, and now they are trying to capture millennial`s with these new 500 & 750 bikes. They just keep making stupid mistakes.

When I was a kid some human wart on a chopper did that. When my dad pulled up to the stop light the bike was next to him, and wart kept revving the bike to the point I thought my ears were going to bleed. He kept looking at my father and I don't know what he said, but my dad lost it. He beat the guy to a bloody pulp right there. My mom was out of the car, trying to pull my dad off him, 2 other guys stopped and did the same. My dad had a real short fuse back then, and being a Chosin Marine, he was not someone to **** with. I guess the moral of the story is being polite pays off, as being a rude, obnoxious ******* to people you don't know can hurt. A lot.

I had a brand new Buell Ulysses in my sights just before Harley dumped Buell. I should have went for it anyway, but just did not want to have a brand new out of production bike in my garage.

Sometimes I think they should change their name to Kamikaze Motors, but that would sound to Japanese I guess.

Yup...I bought mine in May and HD and Buell parted ways in October or so. I had been thinking of a BMW GS1200 prior to getting the Buell, but decided to "Buy American"....maybe not a good idea when it comes to motorcycles.

I would still consider a Buell if I came across a good deal on one.
I never cared for BMWs. Maintenance is just too pricey and I tend to take off to parts unknown on a whim. I like to have a bike that I know I can find parts for and BMW has pretty spotty coverage in many areas.
At least you can still find a HD dealer that can get Buell parts. Or at least I think they can.

The drunk next door had a beautiful Harley that he gave away on a trade for a new one. He got absolutely hammered on the trade!

He had all the stage parts installed on the new bike and spent a fortune on that. Then he and his wife bought every possible Harley clothing accessory from jackets to do rags, boots, glasses, gloves, scarfs, cigarette lighters ........ you get the idea.

He tied up with some other Hog Riders and I actually heard him brag that he was "King of the block!"

Fast forward about 2 years and the highly modified bike sits in the garage unused. His scooter pals are gone and the Harley garb is nowhere to be found.

    What a PUTZ!

    Flash

PS. A Harley baseball cap is the only branded item that I ever bought.

The local HD dealer treated you like a red headed Iranian Step-Child if you needed parts for the Buell. The Ulysses also had a issue with the rear wheel bearings crapping out and HD washed their hands of it. It was a good bike, but wasn't too keen on even gravel roads. The BMW would have been better and held it's value better.

But like you say, nearest BMW dealer to me is 200 miles and they are total snot heads.

Pools are probably the biggest money losing fad for homeowners. Then boats. Then motorcycles of any brand. I’ve seen many cars and trucks modified and then either wrecked or sold at a loss. One braggart friend always had the best of everything and would bore us to tears while he bloviated. At 60~ years old he got the Harley bug. Bought one, added thousands in chrome and crap, added a leather pirate suit and alluva sudden he was an Outlaw. Less than six months later, the Harley sat in his garage until he died. Happens a lot with midlife crisis suits.

Aside from frumpy and snooty, I like the old boxer twin Beemers. Came real close to buying an RNineT a few months ago.
