How did you set up your 40cal Glock for competition?

    I recently purchased a G35 for USPSA/IPSC Limited-10 (Major) competition.

I would like to know what others have done to get their 'Glocks' competition ready.

So far I've added the following items:
    1. T.H.E. stainless steel captured guiderod with 20# ISMI spring
    2. T.H.E. extended mag release
    3. Hi-Viz front sight
    4. Skateboard tape for extra grip

I have only used the WWB 165 value pack ammo from Walmart and it seemed to have alot of recoil for me so I decided to go with a heavier spring. I remember reading MarkCO's post awhile back saying that the best recoil spring for a G22 was 20# so that's why I got it.

Now that I have some brass, I do plan on reloading. What bullets, powder, and nbr of grns are you guys using for practice/competition?

What spring weights do you guys use with specific competition reloads?

Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

    Good old grip tape
    JP Enterprises magwell
    Novak plain black rear
    Dawson Precision fiber optic front

I plan on ordering a "THE" stainless guide rod soon, I chose that over tungsten to stay IDPA legal in ESP.

Here's some specs on my USPSA limited/Lim-10 G35:

Not mentioned there would be additional specifics such as Barsto barrel, un-captured stainless guide rod, 13 pound recoil spring, THE aluminum magwell, etc.

That 20lb spring is way heavier than you will ever need in 40. BTW When I built a G35 limited gun for MarkCo recently it was with an ISMI 15lb spring.

Thanks for the responses and nice pics.

I'm thinking of buying a magwell and have my sights on the THE brass magwell. I noticed all of you guys chose different magwells. Any particular reason?

    CGR-
What kind of finish did you put on your THE brass magwell? Looks great.

Try some VV N320 powder it's very soft. If you can't get N320 my next choice would be clays.

Not sure I would use Clays. It is good for a low pressure case like the .45ACP, but you might want a little slower powder for the .40. A better choice would be either Titegroup or Universal. Titegroup appears to be gaining popularity with the IPSC crowd. TG is a little softer shooting than Universal.

I would advise not using clays, 320 or any other real fast powder with the factory barrel.

    15# IMSI spring
    AGrip
slight relieving of the trigger guard to allow for a higher grip
    polished & stoned trigger components
    4# Wolff striker spring

    5x 15rd mags with +5 extensions
    6x 10rd mags with +0 extensions

I won't suggest Clays for Major 40 loads either. ;g

I have used plenty of well loaded rounds with TiteGroup, however. ;f

    For the gun:

    - good sights (Heinie, Novak, Bo-mar)
    - trigger tuning (plenty of do-it-yourself info around here)
    - grip enhancement (stair tape, Matt's PowerFlex grip tape, Chris' A-Grip)
    - exteneded mag release (NO extended slide stop/release)

    Load and make ready!

I set up a G22 with a Seattle Slug, 14# spring, Wilson barrel, 3.5 connector and 4# fp spring. It runs pretty good.

Matt (CGR) built me a Limited G35: Trigger job, tungston rod and 15# spring, CGR race-cut Heinies, Mag well, Bar-Sto barrel, extended mag release. It runs like "awesome." Matt said he was pissed because it shot softer than his ;f. I'd say if you really want to go fast and not worry about your gun, have Matt build one for you. I priced out the parts for the G21 trigger job that was the subject of a Front Sight article and it ends up costing more than Matt's trigger jobs AND the result is not as good as what Matt builds.

If your racing with aftermarket barrels, 13-15 pound springs work best in the .40 cal Glocks.

This is true. I had gotten over it and now you had to go and remind me!
