I'll be attending a funeral at Arlington in Feb. and need a hotel.
Any recommendations near Reagan Int. or Arlington?
Cheap is good but safe location is the main factor. The wife doesn't want me staying in a bad part of town (is that possible?).
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Sorry for your loss.

Not sure if you are going to get cheap in and around D.C., but if you have the money I would recommend the Westin Grand.

Easy access to the METRO and within walking distance from the White House.

Not the info you wanted, but it is a nice hotel.

I don't know what your budget is, but we stayed right across the river and saved a ton. Our hotel was literally a block away from the metro, which we would have used no matter what hotel we stayed at.

Just go to one of the travel sites and look for a hotel that lists close metro as one of it's features.

Need to know what your budget is. No such thing as cheap; we just spent a week there and cheap was $125/night if you didn't want to share the room with roaches.

Americana Hotel off Route 1. Older place but nice. You can get a room for 100 a night or less.

Lots of .mil stay there TDY.....

Nothing fancy about it but it does have free wireless and close to DCA. No shuttle.

There is a Holiday Inn, a Raddiason, and a Hampton Inn in the area as well.

From there....it's all Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt properties under various names.....and they tend to be close to 200 a night or so.

    Good luck

I've really liked the Embassy Suites in Arlington. It's in the Crystal City area, so it's a short Metro ride from National, and then you're on the Metro while there.

Good area - chock full of federal workers during the day, kinda quiet at night. Big mall nearby.

They serve a really good breakfast, and have VERY large rooms.

As for "cheap" I hope to find something below $100.00.
Looking at Google Earth I see hotels ringed around the Cemetery and was wondering about them.
Anybody know if certain areas outside the ring of freeways are not safe?
I plan on renting a car for the day so no need for the Metro.

Thanks for all the help so far.

Arlington is a very safe location for the most part. In general the areas around the metro are more expensive and typically safer.
Crystal City , Rosslyn, Pentagon City are all safe. I would probably recommend the Rosslyn area (just because I know it better). I haven't stayed in the hotels in the area (I live there, so I don't need a hotel...) but my family have stayed in a variety and there have been no safety concerns. I would say the Holiday Inn in Rosslyn would probably be in your budget, and is in a safe area. There is also a Hyatt in Rosslyn that is most likely <100$ that is nice, though they may charge extra for parking.

The worst part of your stay will probably be the traffic, which is a constant in the area during rush hours.

The Marriot on the Virginia side of the Francis Scott Key Bridge is close to the National Cemetery. Look for a good price online.

My wife used tripadvisor.com to plan our trip; maybe it'll help you plan.

I wouldn't be looking in DC for a hotel if you are just going to a funeral an ANC, I'd be looking in Arlington. The area down around ANC is pretty nice.

This is not a fancy place. They have small clean rooms.

I have used the State Plaza in Foggy Bottom, but it is definitely cheaper across the river in Virginia.
